Possibly the most influential
climate scientist on the planet

Katharine Hayhoe is maybe the most influential climate scientist on the planet. She's one of the only climate scientists to crack TIME's "100 Most Influential People", while also being named among Foreign Policy's "100 Leading Global Thinkers" and Fortune's "50 Greatest Leaders". She frequently contributes to UN climate reports and is the lead author for the upcoming US National Climate Assessment. And in 2018 she delivered one of the most watched Ted Talks on climate change of all time.

But there are two other things that really make Katharine Hayhoe one of a kind.

The first is that Katharine Hayhoe does what many climate scientists dare not do: she speaks to regular people. When she's not penning reports and advancing her own research, Katharine Hayhoe is crisscrossing the US, speaking with regular Americans at Rotary clubs, church groups, knitting circles, colleges, city-planning meetings, even oil and gas conventions. Her goal is to make climate change meaningful for real people, and she documents these often surprising conversations in her new book, "Saving Us: A Climate Scientist's Case for Hope and Healing in a Divided World".

The second thing that makes Katharine Hayhoe truly unique is that she is an evangelical Christian and has made her home in America's second-most conservative city (Lubbock, Texas). If you think being a climate advocate puts her at odds with her local community, you'd be mostly right. However, it also fuels some of Katharine's most provocative insights - on how to build bridges, "rather than dig trenches", with conservative America.

Is conservative America hard-wired against climate action? How are Americans reacting to this summer's extreme climate events? Check out our new podcast interview with Katharine Hayhoe to find out.
