Dear Friends,
It’s Flame Kids day!

We are kicking off our Flame Kids and Youth Group Programming this week. If you are wanting to know more, here’s the info:
A group program of Bible Study, crafting, learning and story-time for kids ages 3 through 6th grade. We gather on Wednesdays at 6:45 p.m. and Sundays at 9:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall Downstairs. All kids, grandkids are welcome to join in. If you’d like to help out, please let me know. We hope to have enough teachers for a 4-week rotation. All parents, grandparents are welcome to join in and help out any time.

Click here to sign up and let us know that your kids are coming.
Our youth program is for all youth grades 7th to 12th, they do not have to be members of the church or have gone through confirmation. We play games, read the Bible, ask questions and seek out our faith. We gather on Wednesdays at 6:45 p.m. in the Sanctuary. Doug Routledge is our main volunteer and will be traveling a bit more this year. If anyone would like to be on the list to help out, please let me know and we can chat.

In Christ.

Picnic & Fellowship
Sunday, September 12th at 1:30pm

Everyone is invited to an all-church picnic! It will be an outdoor gathering of fellowship and food! We’ve also invited the Pastor Budhi Rai and his congregation to join us in fellowship. This will be a time to ask questions about their congregation and get to know each other before we vote on whether to share space or not.

Most importantly, we will gather as neighbors and friends in Christ!

If you are interested in helping to host the picnic or bring food, please contact Pastor Sara.
As the COVID-19 case-rates in North Dakota have started a sharp incline once more, the Leadership Team has decided to ask everyone coming into the building to wear a mask. Thankfully, many of you are vaccinated and have the immunity to fight off a strong case of COVID. However, with our children’s programming returning and the case rates in our county, we’ve decided it is safest to return to masking.
The Dakotas Conference is doing school and health kits again. The Mission Committee has posted the needed items on a board at the church.

All donations are due by Wednesday, September 15th.

Solar Ovens - "Extras" bags

Another opportunity to help with solar ovens is to sew the bags that contain the “extras” that come with the ovens; measuring cups and spoons, oven thermometer, black cloth to cover the bread pans when baking, and a device to indicate when water in the oven is hot enough to be purified. These are simple sewing projects. For more information, please contact Carol Knodle.
Mission Trip - March 2022

We have had team members on past solar oven teams to both Sierra Leone and the Dominican Republic and we have three members from our church, Carol Knodle, Carol Jacobsen and Amy “Jiggy” Trapp signed up to go to the Dominican Republic with a Solar Oven team in March 2022. Pastor Quaya Ackerman (formerly of Arthur UMC) and Wally Sizer (Fargo First UMC) will also be part of this team.

Learn how to help prevent suicide using the safeTALK training. safeTALK is a basic, 3 hour suicide awareness training. This training prepares anyone over the age of 15 to become a suicide alert helper. safeTALK trained helpers can recognize these invitations and take action by connecting them with life saving resources.

This training is offered for free thanks to support from the North Dakota's State Suicide Prevention Program administered through the Department of Human Services, Behavioral Health Division.

COVID-19 Safety Precautions: Participants will be spaced at least 6 feet apart. Participants will be asked to follow the current COVID precaution guidelines at the time of the training.
LivingWorks Start
Self-paced, online program

Suicide can be prevented, and everyone has a role to play. No matter what that role is, our training  program prepare individuals to make a difference. In just 90 minutes, LivingWorks Start teaches trainees to recognize when someone is thinking about suicide and connect them to help and support.

Offered by FirstLink and NDSU Extension, supported by the ND Farm and Ranch Stress Assistance Center Grant (USDA-NIFA).

"Hold On"

How often do we start out the work week filled with joy and energy? How often do we reach Wednesday and still have the vigor to push on until Friday? Over the past 18 months, those seem like rare occurrences for me. Too many times have I said, “Maybe tomorrow will be a better day.” And guess what? – I’m still here. We’re all still here.

Pre-pandemic, I was a sound engineer at Dempsey’s Public House in Fargo. They dedicated Thursday nights to “Open Mic” from 10pm to 12:30am. What is an “Open Mic”? Anyone can wander in off the street and get fifteen minutes to do whatever they want (within reason). Most of them would sing a song. Some would do stand-up comedy or read a spoken word composition. Kwaician would come in with his equipment and completely blow me away with his music. I was always thrilled to work with him.

Though there are many great songs that have a positive message, “Hold On” really hits me. It starts off so unassuming before it deals the heavy, intense lyrics. While he draws the listener in by confessing that he’s just like you and me, he also wants you to know that his drive comes from Jesus Christ and he won’t let anyone derail his dreams.

“I'm your typical, usual, everyday-type of guy;
you may sleep on me now, but you just wait on my time.
Ain't no way I can lose, 'cause I got Christ on my side;
I'll never listen to you, you try'na eat me alive.”

He speaks of never letting go of your dreams, even when life becomes difficult.

“The struggles we all face, the paths we might take.
Always the right time and never the right place, no;
Hold on, it's all I'm living for.”

He encourages us all, knowing that we all have reasons to keep going forward.

“I could give a million reasons not to give up,
keep believing, hold on.”

This is the kind of song we all need right now, whether it’s your preferred style of music or not. As the pandemic continues to drag on, tempers flare. Even simple daily tasks seem to have a compounding element of stress and anxiety. We all need a reminder that our Savior is with us always to give us strength to overcome anything.
