Dear Pemetic Families -

We’ve had a wonderful week at the Pemetic school. Everyone is getting back into the rhythm of school. This sense of rhythm and purpose is essential these days and hopefully adds to a feeling of normalcy we all crave, even if it is for a short period of time as we wind our way through the pandemic.

To sustain that feeling of normalcy, it is important to get as many staff, and students signed up for pool testing. If you have not signed your child up, please consider it. Nurse Brittnay or I would be happy to talk with you about it. By doing so, we will be better able to keep kids in school, if we have a positive case. I am once again adding the details of pool testing in the newsletter to boost our numbers.

Positive cases have been identified in our district schools, forcing close contacts into quarantine if they were not vaccinated or not participating in pool testing.  That is 10 days out of school. For most of our students who can not get vaccinated, pool testing will help keep them in school. Thank you so much for considering this important tool in helping maintain our rhythm of school!

Pool Testing - Pool testing will help our school know about any positive cases, help us ensure that students can stay in school, and limit long quarantine periods. In the past year, students who were considered a close contact had to quarantine for 10-14 days. This year students who are considered a close contact and participate in the pooled testing do not need to quarantine unless they are symptomatic. Please help us keep your children in school by enrolling them in the pool testing!   Please learn more about the benefits of pooled testing and how the test is completed at: Families - Concentric by Ginkgo. To register your child, please complete the short consent form found at:  https://testcenter.concentricbyginkgo.com/minor-consent

Use Pemetic's code : LW38US - You can also access information and sign up from the Pemetic School website at this link. If you have any questions please contact Nurse Brittany at nurse.pemetic@mdirss.org

Have a great weekend - Mr. Z

Entering and Exiting School

This year there is a slight change to how students Enter and Exit the Pemetic School.

Playground Door - 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade

Front Door - Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 1st Grade

Music/Gym Doors - 6th, 7th, and 8th

Students will be dismissed through the same exits for dismissal. If you are planning on picking up your child, please be sure to call the office ahead of time at 244-5502. If you already shared through the survey that you are always picking your child up, the office already has that information.

School starts at 8:15 for K-8. Students need to be in the classroom at 8:15, or they will be marked Tardy.

Pre-K students from Tremont start at 8:15 - 11:15.

Pre-K students from Southwest Harbor start at 11:50 - 2:55.

Please call the office at 244-5502 and let us know if your child is going to be absent, tardy, or going to be dismissed that day.

Dismissal starts at 2:56 p.m., this year.  This is a work in progress, as the high school bus runs are resulting in late bus arrivals here at Pemetic. Please be patient with us as we navigate through this new schedule.

Thank you.
School Pictures will be taken on Monday, September 13, 2021. Look for the LifeTouch flyer in your child's backpack.
Students must attend an online meeting with a parent or guardian on Wednesday 9/15 from 6pm to 6:45pm virtually via Google Meet.

On Monday, 9/13, students will be able to take their computers home to make sure they will work on their home wifi.  On Wednesday, 9/15, student will come home with their laptops again and with this paper to sign and return to school.  Families will use the student laptop to join the Google Meet.  The Meet Code will be "pemlaptop"

Students need to pass a laptop usage quiz at school, have a parent/guardian attend this meeting with them, and return a signed form in order to take their laptops home.

Mr. B.
Hello Parents/Guardians!

On September 7th we will start pooled testing.  I will need parental consent for pooled testing and also rapid testing consent for follow up using BinaxNow.  Links for consents can be found on the school website. Pooled testing will be every Tuesday weekly.  Students will swab their own noses with instruction.  Please be aware that physicals are required for grades 5-8 if participating in any extra-curricular school activities if a physical was not done last year.  Call, text or email with any questions!

Thank you,

Brittany, School Nurse

A NATURE JOURNALING MORNING WITH CHILDREN'S AUTHOR ANNETTE CATE, THE WENDELL GILLEY MUSEUM AND ISLAND READERS & WRITERS

September 11, 2021 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Join the Gilley and Island Readers & Writers for this special Saturday morning with Annette LeBlanc Cate, the author of Look Up! Birdwatching in Your Own Backyard for youngsters in 4th through 6th grades. We'll meet at the Gilley then head out for a guided bird walk after a brief chat about keeping a nature journal. The walk ends back at the Gilley where we'll take time to write in our nature journals, draw some of the birds we saw on the walk, and talk with the author. Each participant will get a  pocket-sized nature journal to call their own, and a copy of  Look Up! which Annette will personalize.

There is no fee for this event, which is co-sponsored by the Wendell Gilley Museum and Island Readers & Writers, but reservations are required at www.wendellgilleymuseum.org/events

Parents -- Self Care is important! Remember the announcements on planes to put your own oxygen mask on before helping others? The stresses of the pandemic coupled with the stresses of parenting can make it so you forget to take care of YOU. Check out these Self Care Suggestions for Parents. You may want to review the list and select one or two to incorporate into your daily routines. You could add a self care practice to things you already do (e.g., with your cup of coffee). If you talk with someone else and share what you plan to do, you will be more likely to do it. Then you can check in about how it is going, review the list of suggestions, get and give encouragement, etc.
Becoming active and involved in your child’s education, builds healthy children and a healthy community.  A great way to do so, is by joining the Pemetic PTO.  We strive to be an all inclusive and positive organization, committed to enhancing the lives of our students.  If you’re interested in joining, you can find us at our Pemetic PTO Facebook page, or you can join our Google Group by emailing Ali Rockwell at downtownkat@gmail.com
