Dear Mission Squash Community,
This time last year I was sitting with our team planning out how our temporary virtual program would look. We had no idea how long we would be planning contingencies for, or that it would be a year before would get back into our facility full time. What we did know was that we needed to radically support our scholars and their families to help them stay on track academically, feel supported socially and emotionally, and to remain physically active. We could not have done this without the support of donors and volunteers who enabled us to increase our level of support, and it is because of them that we were able to achieve our strongest results yet:
- 100% of graduating scholars applied to and enrolled in a college or university
- 2x higher passing rate than HISD comparable peers
- 31 top five placements in local squash tournaments
- 11 squash tournaments won
- 98% program attendance
- 39% of scholars maintained 80% or higher in all classes
- 3 scholars enrolled in boarding schools (St. Paul's, Westminster, and Choate Rosemary Hall)
Now, a year later, we have grown to 5 full-time staff members, are serving 20 new scholars, and have our first set of Mission Squash graduates enrolled in college. Today is our first day of fall program at Hogg, and we could not be more excited for what's to come. We hope that you can join us in support of this year's program!
Yours in Service,
Luna.
