Welcome back to our South American month here at the Atlas. After last week’s water adventures, we’re now taking our first steps on terra firma to explore the projects that are sprouting, growing, and blossoming to start (agri)cultural revolutions across the continent.
We hope they’ll plant the seed of new ideas and inspire you to cultivate your own future-fixing dreams.
Small seeds good deeds
🌳
BRAZIL — The native seeds collected by the Xingu Seed Network are reforesting degraded lands and empowering Indigenous communities in the Amazon.
COLOMBIA — Agroarte Colombia is Medellín’s collective using agricultural hip hop, theatre, and art to plant the seeds of justice and collective healing in Comuna 13.
PERU — Tuber lovers and Martian foodies will be delighted to hear that NASA’s space potato was grown successfully in Peru’s CIP. There’s even an award for the chefs who make it galactically delicious.
URUGUAY — Bamboo is teaching ecosocial regeneration to kids and adults in rural Uruguay. Plant a seed, build a kite, and connect with the land at Aurora de las Sierras.
PERU — If Mars is too far, try high-altitude potatoes in down-on-earth restaurants. These initiatives are collaborating with Indigenous communities to bring Andean native crops to everyone’s table.
Peruvian potatoes need clean water to grow, and so do Andean communities. Discover AWA, the probiotic-packed soap bar washing pollutants and harmful bacteria off Andean rivers. The best part? You can use their technology for free to create a systematic and independent decontamination river network in your area.
