Ingrid Haza, MD
Ingrid Haza, MD was born and raised in Miami, FL. She finished her undergraduate studies and medical school at the Universidad Iberoamericana in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. She then completed her adult psychiatry residency at the BronxCare Health System, Ichan School of Medicine at Mt. Sinai, New York, NY. Dr Haza has experience working with children at an influx shelter for unaccompanied minors in Miami, FL. Her hobbies include watching baseball, basketball games, playing tennis, and traveling with her family.



Mailyn Santana, MD
Mailyn Santana, MD is a native of Cuba who graduated from FIU with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. She later obtained her medical degree from the University of Medicine and Health Science, Camps, St Kitts. Dr Santana attained her adult psychiatry residency training at Citrus Health Network(CHN)-FIU Psychiatry Residency Program. She chose psychiatry as this was one of her favorite subjects throughout medical school. Her interests include salsa dancing, traveling, live music, and do-it-yourself home projects.




Yusleiby Sanzo, MD
Yusleiby Sanzo, MD, originally from Cuba, moved to the United States and followed her dream to become a psychiatrist. She achieved her medical degree at Central America Health Science University, Ladyville, Belize, and then her residency at Larkin Community Hospital. Becoming a mother was Dr Sanzo's motivation through her journey to Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. 





Prisa Zachariah, MD
Prisa Zachariah, MD was born in India and grew up in West Chester, PA. She obtained her undergraduate degree at Penn State University, Centre County, PA, and attended Ross University Medical School, Portsmouth, Dominica. She earned her psychiatry residency at Creedmoor Psychiatric Center, with affiliations with NYP/Columbia University Medical Center, New York, NY. She is excited to begin her training as a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist. She enjoys cooking, fishing with her husband, and spending time with her family, consisting of her toddler daughter, newly born twins, and her dog.

 

Claudia Alfonso, MD

Born in Cuba and raised in South Florida, Claudia Alfonso, MD became a registered nurse in 2012 after attaining her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of South Florida. She then earned her medical degree at St. George's School of Medicine in True Blue, Grenada. Since the early years of her nursing career, she has worked in behavioral health which motivated her to become a Psychiatrist. Dr Alfonso has committed her professional life to caring for/ treating mental illnesses and hopes to do so for many years to come. She is fond of being with her family and friends, puzzles, movies, travel, hiking, fitness, 5K for charity, boat rides, going to the beach, and dancing. 


Ashley Echevarria, MD

Miami local, Ashley Echevarria, MD received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology at the University of Florida and obtained her medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine. She enjoys spending time with her family, dog, doing yoga, watching slam poetry, attending musical theatre, and traveling to the Florida Keys.






Javier Morales, MD
Javier Morales, MD is a Puerto Rico native. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Cell/Molecular Biology and his medical degree from the University of Puerto Rico in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Dr Morales' interests and hobbies include music, literature, research, cooking Jiu-Jitsu, playing recreational tennis, languages, and even authored a Spanish poetry book.





Joshua Tapia, MD
Joshua Tapia, MD was born and raised in Miami, FL. He studied Biology at Barry University and attained his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine. Dr Tapia enjoys fishing, working out at the local gym, participating in Brazilian jiu-jitsu classes, traveling, baking, walking his dog, and playing guitar.

Jose Taque, LMHC, MS
Clinical Therapist

Jose Taque, LMHC, MS, joined the department in June 2021. He graduated from FIU with a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. He has experience providing individual, couples, group, and family therapy for all ages and has worked with patients diagnosed with mental health conditions such as depression, trauma, anxiety, suicidality, and adjustment disorders.

This past May, Carissa Caban-Aleman, MD was recognized by FIU Students on the 2021 Patient Satisfaction Survey for going above and beyond in meeting their healthcare needs.

Daniel Castellanos, MD
Assistant Dean for Graduate Medical Education; Founding Chair; Professor of Psychiatry & Pediatrics
Daniel Castellanos, MD was awarded the 2021 Florida Psychiatric Society Practitioner of the Year Award. This award recognizes Dr Castellanos' years of voluntary service as a psychiatrist in statewide administrative initiatives, legislative activities, and community-based organizations. He has been a tireless educator and advocate seeking to increase awareness and reduce the stigma surrounding mental illnesses. He has particularly focused on promoting prevention and appropriate mental health care for our most vulnerable population, child welfare involved youth.
