Mark your calendars for our in-person offerings for October, including After Hours at the Museum, Curator Tours, and Docent-Led Tours

After Hours

October 7 from 4 to 8 pm

We're staying up late! Join us for After Hours every first Thursday of the month, from September to May, when we give you extra hours to view your favorite exhibitions! 
Curator Tour
October 7 at 6 pm
 

Join Dr. Alex Rich, Executive Director and Chief Curator, each month during After Hours for a guided tour of the galleries, as he provides visitors with in-depth art historical and curatorial insight into the Museum’s current exhibitions.
Point of View Gallery Talk
October 8 at 12 pm
 

Join us every second Friday of the month for a Point of View Gallery Talk! This month, join photographer and Florida Southern College professor Sarah Brewington Baarns as she discusses the mystery and mysticism behind Josephine Sacabo’s intriguing photographs!
Virtual ArtLab
October 9 at 10 - 11:30 am 


Each month, participants will be introduced to one of the Museum’s exhibitions in a fun and interactive way through Zoom. ArtLabs are led by professional artists and art educators who will engage participants of all ages and skills. Each virtual ArtLab will include a private Zoom invitation.
Docent Tour
October 16 at 11 am


Join us each third Saturday of the month to get a fresh look into the Museum's featured exhibition through an informative and engaging conversation with one of our passionate docents. 
 
Learning to Be Me: Student Exhibition 
October 23 at 11 - 2 pm 


We invite the friends and family of the students whose artwork is presented in Learning to Be Me to join us for a reception.  
Learning to Be Me features artworks by students grades K-2 from Polk County School District elementary schools.

Education

After School Art

Mondays, October 4 - November 3
4:30 pm to 5:30 pm | Doors open at 4:20 pm 
Fee (per child): Free for Members, $5 for Non-Members 

 
After School Art is designed for the parent and child to learn creative new skills together. Come join us for a new lesson each week using different mediums and learning about the elements of art. Our activities are easily designed to be recreated at home to further enhance your young artists’ skills — and yours, too!

Doors open at 4:20 pm. Space is limited; be sure to arrive early to secure your spot!

Phoneography: Smartphone Photography

Saturday, October 9 | 10 am to 1 pm
Skill Level: Beginning to Intermediate
Fee: $80 Members, $130 non-Members


Ready to catch those special events, moments, and artistic shots like a pro with a device we all now seem to carry in our pockets? In this workshop, students will learn basic skills and compositional techniques in photography, along with the following topics:

  • Apps

  • Special effects

  • Photo manipulation

  • Photo collage

  • Multiple exposure

Students will use their own smartphones or tablets. Please note: This workshop will be taught using Apple products; therefore, some basic photography functions may differ slightly from those of other cell phone brands.
