As children return to school, the CERN-developed COVID Airborne Risk Assessment tool (CARA) is helping researchers from the University of Geneva evaluate different ways of limiting COVID-19 transmission in the classroom. For instance, it was found that natural ventilation – while a necessary measure – is more effective in winter than in summer. The tool has further knowledge-transfer potential and can be applied in other indoor spaces, such as higher education institutions.
