Thank God for CAP
“I tell you the truth, anything you did for even the least of my ·people, you also did for me.” -- Matthew 25:40
In 1986, The Rev. Greg Pryor (the pastor of St. Paul’s Church) saw a growing need in our community to provide assistance for the needy. Greg knew that Jesus had called His followers to care for the poor, but Greg also knew that the need was greater than St. Paul’s Church could handle alone. So with the help of Kingston Presbyterian Church and a few other local churches, a new ministry was born: Churches Assisting People (CAP). CAP is a non-profit ministry that helps our neighbors in need. They primarily act as a food bank, distributing food to people who are hungry. They also provide funds to help people with utility bills, fuel, and rent. CAP has a HUGE job and the need is great. Thank God for that ministry.
CAP was born at St. Paul’s Church. Their first office was in our Administration Building and the food bank was once located in what is now our Youth Room. Many parishioners have given their time, their talent, and their treasure to support this ministry. Although it is an independent organization now, CAP is still our “baby”. If you are a parent, you know that your child needs your love and support. CAP is no different: CAP needs our love and support to carry out its mission to help the needy in our community. Their mission is OUR mission. Jesus calls us to help the least of His people. When we do, we are actually helping Jesus fulfill His mission and ministry.
CAP is always in need of assistance. They totally rely on volunteers and donations to operate. Can you give some time serving at CAP? Can you contribute to our Matthew 25 Fund at St. Paul’s that is used to support CAP. Will you pray for God’s abundant provision for this ministry? CAP is also celebrating its 35th Anniversary this year. They have planned a special event at Thompson Farm on Saturday, September 18 as a way to say “thank you” to those who serve along with them. When you serve the needy, you are actually serving Jesus.

Ready, Willing and Able
Since Stephen Ministries was founded in 1975, there are more than 13,000 churches with Stephen Ministers where more than 600,000 laypeople have received Stephen Ministry training. At St. Paul’s our 15 Stephen Ministers have been trained and are ready to help you in such difficulties as grief, divorce, depression, cancer, hospitalization, physical rehabilitation, long term and chronic illness, job loss, loss of a home, military deployment, the onset of a disability, spiritual crisis and many other life struggles. They are ready to help you.
A Stephen Minister is a lay member of this congregation trained by the Stephen Ministry Leaders to offer care to people who are hurting. A Stephen Minister typically has one care receiver at a time and meets with that person once a week either in person, on the phone or via Zoom. Care receivers are individuals in the church who are are going through a crisis. Potential care receivers first meet in person or on the phone with Rev. Jason Collins or a Stephen Leader, who assesses their needs for care and then matches them with an appropriate Stephen Minister. The caring relationship lasts for as long as the need exists. There is NO cost.
Stephen Ministers are available now. Just call the church office at 843.248.4706 and say you need a Stephen Minister. In a day or so someone will contact you and discuss how the Stephen Ministry program can help you.

If you want to sign up for Cancer Care training, please contact Deb Wright (sassyfrass55@yahoo.com), or call Rose Mary in the church office at 843.248.4706. Six weekly training meetings will begin on October 4 at 1:00PM for the day session and at 6:00PM for the evening session. The training materials are provided free of charge from Cancer Treatment Centers of America.
The Good News Club at Conway Elementary School will launch on September 23, 2021. The Good News Club is an after-school program that introduces children to Jesus.
