L.A. Times offering summer internships!

The Los Angeles Times is advertising new summer internship opportunities (see listings below) and holding a free webinar on how to get an internship/job at 5 p.m. today and Oct. 5. Don't forget to sign up for the Oct. 7 Pizza & Portfolios and start working on your résumé and clips/reels to show to faculty and professionals from 5 to 7 p.m in Marshall 344. And there's still time to apply for a fall internship with the Tucson Weekly (see below).

1. Don Bolles Legislative Reporting Fellowship in Phoenix
   Deadline: Monday, Oct. 4. Cover the Arizona Legislature in spring 2022 for 12 units of credit, three of which satisfy your JOUR 490F requirement. Tuition is covered by the fellowship, plus a $5,000 salary. Your work will be published on El Inde, our school media website, and elsewhere. Juniors, seniors preferred. Submit 1) a letter explaining your interest; 2) a résumé with three references; and 3) three samples of your best reporting and writing (published or from journalism classes). 3. Pizza and Portfolios: Thursday, Oct. 7, 5 to 7 p.m. here in the Marshall building. Open to all students, regardless of year in the major. Bring your résumé, cover letter and work samples to have them reviewed one-on-one with faculty members and professionals, and hear from our local panel of students and professionals. Free pizza, salad and drinks. RSVP HERE, so we know how much pizza to order!
4. School of Journalism Fall Internship Fair: Friday, Oct. 29, here in the Marshall building. Open to all students who have completed JOUR 205 or are enrolled in 205 this semester. Interview with Tucson and statewide media recruiters seeking interns for the 2022 spring and summer semesters. A signup link will be sent out in late September.

Digital Borderlands Grant (grad students only)
NEW Three paid fellowship opportunities are available through a Mellon-funded Digital Borderlands Grant for grad students interested in the borderlands, history and digital storytelling. There's a $7,000 stipend for the Oct. 1, 2021-Aug. 21, 2022 grant. To apply, send one PDF file to History Prof. Katherine Morrissey that contains a cover letter describing experience and interests, including a possible topic for study; a C.V.; and name/contact information for one professional reference (UA faculty preferred).
