Happy Fall to our subscribers! And yes, it is getting hotter out there, and we can do something about it. According to Climate Central which analyzed 61 years of fall temperature data in 246 U.S. locations, roughly 95% (234 out of 246 cities) have warmed during their autumn season since 1970. Higher temperatures lead to many poor health outcomes. In fact, more than 200 medical journals created an unprecedented joint statement that urges world leaders to cut heat-trapping emissions to avoid "catastrophic harm to health that will be impossible to reverse." Join us and together we can make a difference. #ACT for #CLIMATE

We are proud to be a partner for this year’s #CEH day! Save the Date October 14th.

Children’s Environmental Health (CEH) Day takes place on the second Thursday of October each year.

Focused on action and equity, the goal of #CEHDay is to collectively increase the visibility of children's environmental health issues while empowering individuals and organizations to take action on behalf of children nationwide. We believe that all children have the right to healthy environments in which to thrive. Environmental health for all kids means clean air, clean water, products free from harmful chemicals. Join Over 75 health organizations in calling on Congress to make investments in climate and health

The moment for transformative climate action in Congress is finally here. That’s why 77 organizations in the health care and public health community just released a joint letter to Congressional leaders outlining the priorities that we know will most benefit our nation’s health.

This window is closing quickly as the budget reconciliation process concludes in the coming weeks. We need your help in amplifying the health community’s message: major investments are needed to protect and promote health in response to the climate crisis. Sign or Tweet Letter to Congress.

Climate Distress to Activation: The Critical Role of the Health Professional

The climate crisis is impacting health, and health care professionals have a pivotal role as advocates for change.

Doctors share how they have promoted advocacy, as well as effective ways of messaging, and how leaders serve as trusted sources of information, educators for policymakers and local institutions, and change agents in their own institutional or governments policies. Healthcare professionals and others can help move the public and leaders from distress into active roles that will have reverberating impacts on our societal change. This session ends with a meditation.

As the climate crisis intensifies our mental health is also affected. Researcher and GCCA Steering Committee member, Dr. Jennifer Barkin is developing an assessment tool to see how people respond mentally to climate change. Consortium website

The Climate Crisis is a Health Crisis

By Neha Pathak, MD for The Hill

The U.S. House recently passed infrastructure legislation along with a budget resolution that could be its “strongest-ever climate bill,” with essential provisions like the Clean Electricity Payment Program (CEPP) that can realistically get us to 80 percent clean energy by 2030.
