No White After Labor Day is No Fun
You know that old adage that you're "not supposed to wear white after Labor Day." It became a fashion faux pas in the early to mid-twentieth century when wearing white in the hot Summer months was a way to cool off from searing heat. Think white linen pants and white cotton dresses like a Coachella party in Palm Springs.
Just like our favorite breathable white garb, white wines (and rosés) are often most associated with Summer sipping. Be it poolside, oceanside, or rooftop skyline viewing, these lighter-bodied wines are breezy, cooling, and refreshing. So even if we tend to lean towards darker and bolder colors (talking wine and clothes here) as the leaves begin to turn, there's no hard and fast rule that says the Summer vibes must end.
This week, we went full perma-vacationer and broke some rules by bringing glass out to the pool. These wines are coming with us no matter what. Here are 6 White Wines You Can Wear After Labor Day.

2020 Dolores Cabrera La Araucaria Rosado
Listán Negro from Canary Islands, Spain 🇪🇸
$24.99
This colorful elixir hails from Spain’s Canary Islands and it’s derived from the Listán Negro grape, native to and most common on the island of Tenerife. This rosado went through a 12-hour maceration giving it a popping electric pink color. It has soft silky tannins, spices and prominent red berry flavors, but it’s the black peppery and smokey aromas and flavors, with salty minerality that will grab your attention. A red wine drinker’s rosé, it’s a banging gastronomic find perfect for backyard barbecues or heartier autumn dishes.

Riesling from Alsace, France 🇫🇷
$25.99
Just like we’re going to continue to rock the white jeans all year long, there’s no season not to drink a Riesling. And don’t let anyone tell you all Rieslings are sweet. Alsace, in fact, is known for its dry style and mineral-laden goodness. This Reserve from Meyer-Fonne shows off with wet stone minerality and tangy acidity along with all the classic flavors of this white wine gem—apple, stone fruit and citrus. It’s a bright wine we’re happy to pour rain, sun or snow.

2020 Cleto Chiarli Lambrusco
Sparkling Wine from Emilia-Romagna, Italy 🇮🇹
$16.99
Mmmm… a light red fizz that is dry, popping with strawberries, cherries and juicy watermelon. It finishes with a touch of sour apple jolly rancher alongside a refreshing wave of acidity. This Lambrusco may seem like a summer popsicle, but trust us, pair this beauty with some seasonal squash dishes, roast pork, or even game day chili and you won’t care what season it is.

2020 Mortellito Cala Iancu Bianco
Grillo from Sicily, Italy 🇮🇹
$25.99
Razzy and racy with white peach and pineapple brightness and a touch of macadamia and honeycomb, this is a juicy pleasure bomb that will easily ignite a crowd. The body is round and swashbuckling with salty, mineral-laced pineapples that feel squeezed into non-existence. Rip-roaring acid and tang complete the pulp like finish in this indie hit. Brb. 2019 Ridge Grenache Blanc
Grenache Blanc from Paso Robles, CA 🇺🇸
$29.95
A sleeper wine from the legend that is Ridge, this Grenache blanc is relatively new to the portfolio and sourced from Paso Robles Adelaida District. 77% Grenache Blanc and the rest Picpoul and Roussanne, it sees American Oak and native yeast fermentation so the natty hipsters should be pleased. Aromas of sweet pear and bright peaches with a rich mouth-filling texture of tart citrus and key lime. More complex than most would expect and, despite the oak influence, is perfectly transitional from Summer to Fall.

IF YOU DON'T KNOW, NOW YOU KNOW
Some white wines are actually produced from black (purple) grape varieties. It’s all in the making. If the juice is pressed directly from the grapes at harvest and has no contact with the skins during fermentation (as they would in making a red wine), the wine will have no pigmentation. Pinot Gris/Grigio is one of the most common white wines made from a dark-skinned grape. The term gris means gray in French as the grape’s skin has a dark gray to purple hue. But if you keep an eye out, you can also find white wines made from Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc or even Merlot.
