Given New CDC COVID Guidelines (on July 27, 2021) and the most recent NM DoH Public Health Order (August 17, 2021), the St. Luke Council has put forward the following guidelines for our worship practices
1) Wearing of masks is required for all attendees, regardless of vaccination status; 2) Singing is optional for all. We institute these changes with the recognition that things are moving quickly and we are trying to be responsible and responsive, with a bias towards caution.   ---The St. Luke Council and Pastors

Mid-Week Wednesday
Bible Study
The Letter of James has too often been neglected by the Lutheran church.  One scholar has said that reading James is a “bit like the kind of Turkish bath where you get hotter and hotter and then suddenly someone dumps a bucket of icy water over you.  James thinks in a different way to most other New Testament authors.”  Well, on Wednesday mornings, we will be taking not a Turkish bath but a Finnish sauna with Pastor Wayne and then we will together take the plunge in a cold icy lake!

About the Class
* 6 Weeks – on Wednesdays – beginning  September 15th .
* Two Possible Times to Attend:  8AM and Noon, on Zoom.
* Format:   Bible Study – Digging into the Bible text – Brief presentation and discussions ... & probably some articles tossed your way from Pastor Wayne!
* Click HERE for the syllabus
* Click HERE for the James Bible Project poster

Prayers of St. Luke Church Family
Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.
- Romans 12:15
For Those Who Celebrate
We celebrate the blessing and installation of Pastor Carmen as Parish Associate and Pastor of Nature Ministry at Camino de Vida church, 3907 Isleta Blvd. SW, ABQ, on Sunday, October 3rd, at 9:30 AM.

We give thanks for the birth of Penelope June Meyer (great niece of Dawn & Brent Meyer) on August 24th. Penelope has Down’s syndrome with consequent heart issues. We pray for our Lord to strengthen Penelope daily and for his perfect timing & medical team to fix her heart.

With thanksgiving, we celebrate our Bookkeeper Michelle Barba's 5th anniversary of employment at St. Luke on September 7th. We are blessed that she is part of the church family.

For Those Who Mourn
We pray for the family of Richard Peters (Daleen Olson's cousin): his wife Ann and son Marc. Richard died on August 17, 2021.

For Those in Need of Strength, Help, Healing, Comfort
We pray for the Albuquerque communities, for our law enforcement personnel, medics, first responders and their families, and perpetrators & families.  May God protect the protectors, convert the hearts of criminals and haters, and bring justice and calm into our city. Amen.

We pray for Jebbie Solomonson (niece of Pauleta & Sean Hendrickson); Sherri; Leo T., Gage, & Kate (from Holly Trujillo); Karin Duda; Suma Lee Hatchett & Roger Guericke (from Kim Guericke); Valerie Trujillo (Betty Begeal’s friend); the Fuller Family (from Roesler family); Lin Hafner (Betty Begeal's friend); Kay, Brandon & Barb (from Nancy Espy); Sara, Theresa & Mary (from Sally Meeks); Crews & Jane; Jessica & Brett (from Azar family); Bob Folkes (Steve Folkes's brother); Karin Duda; Jack Raitt (brother-in-law of David & Betty Begeal); former St. Luke member Linda Erlandson (Betsy Abel's friend);Sumalee Thomas (from Kim Guericke) and for her young children; Bonnie (from Barbara Exley); Kenneth (from Sally Meeks); Tom M. (from Azar family); Liz Wills; Rita, Brandon; Steve Montgomery; Susan (Les Anderson's niece); Bonnie Paine; Bill; and Roger (son of Magda Renteria).

We pray for homebound members: Polly Brodbeck, Melda Burns, Dorela Cole, Billie Cooper, Leah Coughenour, Dottie Donohoe, Phoebe English, Marilyn Feagler, Lucille Few, Janet Garcia, Janis Prudhomme, Lois Sherwood, Ardys Theophillus, Donald Vlasaty.

We pray for all children & their families, especially in Albuquerque. We pray for all children separated from their loved ones and those who are in unsafe situations.

We pray for our St Luke Preschool, students, teachers, and staff.
We pray for those states along the path of storm Ida; those in the midst of wildfires in California; earthquakes & storm in Haiti; and upheaval in Afghanistan.
************
We pray for our Council and committee/ministry leaders.

We lift up in prayer our pastors Christa & Wayne as they minister to us. (God said, “And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.” – Jeremiah 3:15).
************
For the Wider Church
We pray for Lutheran Family Services in Albuquerque; Luther House NM/CNM; Navajo Lutheran Mission in Rock Point, AZ; churches in Afghanistan; and missionaries sent by God all over the world. We pray for the persecuted church.

We pray for ELCA missionary pastor and professor of Church History, The Rev. Carolyn Schneider, Ph.D. as she prepares to move to Jamaica to teach at the (UTCWI) United Theological College of the West Indies (http://www.utcwi.edu.jm). We pray as she goes through the working visa application process & final travel arrangements, her journey to a new (for her) country and settling at her temporary home at the UTCWI campus.

We join with the staff of World Vision, a Christian relief organization in Afghanistan in praying for the safety of children in Afghanistan amid conflict in the country. We pray that God would bring peace to this country so that children and families might live without fear of violence. We pray for the health of Afghan children and their families; currently 40% of Afghan children suffer from malnutrition.

We pray with The Evangelical Lutheran Education Association (ELEA) for children, families and staff of our sister preschools in Louisiana that were heavily damaged by Hurricane Ida: Christ the King in Kenner; Hosanna Christian Preschool in Mandeville; and Concordia Lutheran School in Marrero.

For Our Country
At this time of war and conflict we pray for all the members of the American military and foreign service in danger anywhere in the world. Allow them to accomplish their missions and come home safely to us. We pray for all those innocently caught up in the conflicts. And because our Lord Jesus commanded us to pray for our enemies and those who persecute us, we ask you, Lord to always remind us that you created them in your image, that Christ died for them, that they are beloved of God just like us, so that we might with sincerity pray, Lord have mercy on them.
