MOWBRAY PRECINCT CRIME REPORT

Hi, All:
 
JULY 26 – AUGUST 1
 
2 ROBBERIES 
  • Mowbray police are investigating a case of attempted murder after a schoolboy was shot in the arm during a robbery on the footbridge at the public transport interchange last week. Happened on Tuesday at 3.50pm when two robbers accosted two pupils and, when one of them resisted, he was shot. The boy was taken to hospital.
  • The other robbery occurred in Astley Road at 6pm on Friday when three men leapt from a car and snatched the handbag of a woman standing outside her home 
4 BURGLARIES REPORTED 
  • At the Vista Nova School in Milner Road  in the early hours of Wednesday morning (kitchen appliances taken)
  • At Forest Hill students’ residence on Thursday between 2.30-2.55pm (iPad stolen)
  • In Clarendon Road at about 8.30pm on Saturday, when thieves were disturbed while breaking into a house and fled after crashing their getaway car into a lamp-pole
  • In Main Road during the night on Sunday, when alcohol was stolen from a restaurant after the door was forced open 
COPPER THIEVES 
  • Were also busy during the week - in Firth Road on Thursday between 2.15-7.30pm (tap and cabling) At Mowbray train station during the night on Thursday (copper cables taken) 
FOUR CARS WERE BROKEN INTO
  • Red Cross Hospital between 8.45-9.30am on Tuesday
  • Rhodes High School between 7.50-9pm
  • Thornhilll Road during the night on Tuesday
  • Balfour Road during the night on Saturday 

AUGUST 2 – 15
 
FIVE BURGLARIES WERE REPORTED
  • In Klipfontein Road during the night on Sunday (August 2), a laptop, tools and other equipment were stolen from the garage of a business premises by thieves who forced the door open
  • In Clarendon Road during the night on Friday (August 6), a gate motor was stripped from a house
  • In Bordon Road on Saturday (August 7) between 1.30-6.30pm, clothing was stolen from a washing line
  • In Heath Road around midnight on Tuesday (August 10), two bicycles were stolen from a garage
  • In John Street sometime during the course of the week (August 12-15), an unsuccessful attempt was made to break into an empty house
 
FOUR ROBBERIES WERE REPORTED
  • At the intersection of Sawkins and Klipfontein Roads at 9.30am, a motorist paused at the red light had his wide-window smashed by a robber who tried to steal his cellphone but he managed to foil the attempt by speeding off
  • In Main Road on Friday (August 6) at 4.30pm, three motor-muggers snatched a backpack containing cellphone and cash from a pedestrian
  • On Sunday (August 9) at 8.10am, a man armed with a firearm robbed a pedestrian of his bag containing cellphone and cash
  • In Richmond Road on Monday at 3.30pm, a duo of muggers robbed a scooter deliveryman of his cellphone 
CABLES THIEVES
  • At the City Lodge on the N2 where CCTV camera cables were damaged
  • Mowbray railway station at 9.10am on Sunday August 2, when signal cables were taken 
NINE CARS WERE BROKEN INTO
  • Wolmunster Road during the night on Monday August 2)
  • Roseberry Road around midday on Monday (August 3)
  • Long Street on Thursday (August 5) between 7.30-9-30am (number plates)
  • Clarendon Road during the night on Friday August 6 (camper fridge and sunglasses)
  • Lower York Road during the night on Saturday August 7 (radio and wheel spanner)
  • Rondebosch Medical Centre in Klipfontein Road on Tuesday August 10 between 3.20-4.30pm (tools)
  • Rondebosch Medical Centre on Thursday August 12 between 11.20-12.40 (headlights)
  • Highfield Road during the night on Sunday August 15)
  • Highfield Road during the night on Sunday August 15 (radio) 
ARREST
  • Patrolling police arrested a man at the corner of Main and Station Roads on Thursday at 4.20pm for being in possession of a stolen car 

AUGUST 16 - 22
 
HIJACKINGS 
  • John Street at 8.30pm on Monday, when three men armed with a gun tooK a woman’s BMW
  • On the N2 after a minor accident  at 7pm on Sunday, when the passenger in a car took the keys and drove off 
ONE CAR WAS REPORTED STOLEN 
  • An Isuzu bakkie taken from Durban Road at 11.30am on Wednesday 
FOUR BURGLARIES REPORTED 
  • In Gloucester Road during the night on Monday, a TV was taken after a door had been forced open
  • In Malleson Road, three men posing as painters broke into a house and took a laptop, clothing, bedding and books
  • In Montreal Road during the night on Saturday, an overhead projector was stolen from Rhodes High School
  • In Banksia Road on Saturday at 3.10pm, a sneak thief  jumped a wall and made off with a laptop 
TWO ROBBERIES REPORTED 
  • A handbag-snatcher was arrested in Strubens Road at 2.15pm on Tuesday
  • A Taxify driver was robbed of cellphone and cash by a threesome of passengers armed with a gun at 8.10pm on Friday in Liesbeek Parkway.
TWO CARS WERE BROKEN INTO
  • Klipfontein Road at 4.45pm on Thursday (power drill taken)
  • Clarendon Road on Monday between 5-8pm (mirror and emblem)

Together with location please send a clear picture or a message describing the type of vehicle and importantly the registration number to the LMRID Control so it can be logged with the LPR team (License Plate Recognition)

The Speaker, Alderman Felicity Purchase has directed, following the decision of the Constitutional Court that the 2021 Local Government Elections must proceed between 27 October and 1 November, that all Ward Committees in the City of Cape Town must be disestablished with immediate effect.
 
In preparation for the Establishment of ward committees post LGE 2021,a clean-up exercise of COD must commence to ensure smooth transition to new wards and/or Subcouncils.  
 
Please update your organisation on the attached revised COD form and return it with the  following documents  on or before 7 October 2021 
  1. AGM minutes( not older than 18 months)
  2. Constitution
  3. Map of Ward Boundaries (Civics and Ratepayers organisations only)
