Over the last several months we’ve honed in on the intersection of race, class and education during the pandemic. We dug into data that showed, among other things, an overwhelming number of Black students didn’t have reliable broadband access or the hardware, laptops etc., for remote learning; chronicled why some Black families are opting for homeschooling; and published a moving personal essay from one of our publishers about the fear of sending her daughter back to in-person schooling.
Now we want to bring you into the conversation.
Join us next Tuesday at 7 p.m. EST for our first interactive virtual event. We’ve invited reporters and editors across our partner newsrooms to discuss how the pandemic affected and continues to change the education landscape; how parents, teachers, administrators and students are adapting and how to proceed with the new school year. And how all the bad outcomes disproportionately affect Black children in public schools..
Their perspectives will cover experiences across seven states to give a bigger picture understanding of where the state of education for Black America stands today.
Following the moderated conversation you’ll get the chance to engage with the speakers and ask questions.
