CANCELLED: Saturday, September 11 Lake Winnipesaukee Cruise -  Contact Holly Mansfield of Carlisle Recreation 978-369-9815, hmansfield@carlislema.gov for information.

SAVE THE DATE: Flu Shot Clinic - The Carlisle Board of Health will be holding a drive-through flu vaccination clinic (residents age 65+ only) on Friday, October 1, 2021 from 10:00am-12:00pm at St. Irene Church. The vaccine will be provided and administered by Walgreen’s and both high and regular dose vaccines will be available. Walgreen’s will handle the billing and there will be no cost to you. There will also be a homebound registration list. Call the COA for details and registration.

Tuesday, September 14 Virtual Poetry - 7:00pm via Zoom - Sponsored by the Concord and Maynard Public Libraries - In her fourth full-length book White Blood: A Lyric of Virginia, Rilke-Prize-winning poet Kiki Petrosino turns her gaze to Virginia, where she digs into her genealogical and intellectual roots, while contemplating the knotty legacies of slavery and discrimination in the Upper South. Friday, September 17 Parkinson's Disease and Vision - 1:00pm via Zoom - Sponsored by Emerson Hospital - Nicole Kelly, MS, OTR/L will discuss changes in vision that can impact participation in daily activities. Monday, September 20 Concord Museum’s Golf Tournament - 10:30am-6:00pm Concord Country Club - Enjoy a full day of fun featuring a Bramble format with on-course contests, luncheon, and a reception and awards ceremony.  This highly anticipated annual event draws players and sponsors from the greater Boston area for a lively day full of friendly competition, good company. Tuesday, September 21 Emergency Preparedness Training - 1:00pm Acton COA Multipurpose Room, 30 Sudbury Road - This training, presented by the Massachusetts Office on Disability and funded by the Department of Homeland Security, will provide you with the knowledge and supplies you need to be ready. Learn about emergency response resources and procedures within the community and the individual steps you can take to be prepared. You will also hear how the government responds to an emergency and what to expect during a natural disaster. Participants who qualify will receive a free emergency “go kit!” Register ahead of time as kit supplies are limited: 978-929-6652 or seniorcenter@actonma.gov.

Wednesday, September 22 Roasted Peppers & Honey Pot Hill Orchard - 11:00am van departs Congregational Church; returning around 4:30pm - Have a quick bite at Roasted Peppers in Maynard, followed by hot cider, crisp juicy apples, and sugary cider doughnuts at Honey Pot Hill Orchards in Stow. Van fee $5 payable to driver on the day of the trip. Only 12 seats available. First come, first served. Carlisle residents have 1st preference. Wednesday, September 22 Author Talk - 1:00pm Acton COA Multipurpose Room, 30 Sudbury Road - Join Acton resident John Anderson as he talks about his recently published book, Borne on the Wind, accompanied by a slideshow. The book is about the life and sailing career of John’s grandfather Captain Anders Anderson. Anders left home as a teenager for a life at sea, sailing to North and South America, Africa, Burma, and India and surviving a shipwreck, all before reaching adulthood. He later became a Maine schooner captain in the last years of the Atlantic sailing trade and left behind more than 30 years of journals which are the basis for John’s book. Thursday, September 23 Coping Strategies for Grief and Loss - 10:00am via Zoom - Presented by the Acton COA - Join the conversation about grief and loss especially since the COVID pandemic began. Feel free to share your stories and questions if the mood strikes you. Led by Cynthia Simpson LICSW with experience in grief, trauma, and family matters. Funded by CHNA15. Tuesday, September 28 FDR Presidential Library: Exploring the Great Depression - 1:00pm via Zoom - The Great Depression was the greatest economic downturn in world history. This session explores the rising unemployment, financial crisis, and other hardships that threatened social and economic order in the United States and throughout the industrialized world. NOTE: Second of three programs. Presented by Library Education Specialist, Jeffrey Urbin. To register call the COA 978-371-2895 by Friday, September 24.
 
Thursday, September 30 Flower Therapy Workshop - 2:30-4:00pm St. Irene - Join the COA and the Power of Flowers Project, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, for a hands-on workshop. The Flower Therapy Workshop will instill hope and happiness by having participants create their own bouquets under the direction of a trained volunteer. For Carlisle 60+ residents—space is limited. First come, first served. Register with the COA by calling 978-371-2895 by Thursday, September 23.
