2,500 Acres of Working Forest Conserved Along Oregon Coast

Columbia Land Trust and other conservation organizations partner with GreenWood Resources

The recently announced project will protect working forestland along Highway 101, between the towns of Astoria and Seaside, from future development or subdivision, ensure tribal and public access, and preserve water quality through Columbia Land Trust’s purchase of a conservation easement. Art and nature intersect along the Grays River

Anna Daedalus and Kerry Davis are a married artist team who live and work near the Grays River in Wahkiakum County, Washington. Their recent project, Palūs, focused on 55 acres of Sitka spruce swamp restored by Columbia Land Trust. Inspired by their daily walks alongside the wetland, their remote residency with Oxygen Art Centre in British Columbia contemplates flowing time, impermanence, and interdependence in this landscape ruled by tides. Anna and Kerry are delighted to count the Land Trust parcel and its many denizens as their neighbors, saying “We’ve always loved the alluring mystery of thicketed wetlands and dreamed of living near a nature preserve.”

Two Coastal Restoration Projects Kick Off

Forest thinning and wetland rejuvenation

Our stewardship team recently began two exciting restoration projects. At Kandoll Road North on the Grays River we are excavating about 3,000 cubic yards of material to create freshwater channels and ponds in an area that was previously fallow pasture. Further north at the Seal Slough property on the shore of Willapa Bay, we thinned 130 acres of dense Sitka spruce forest to expedite old growth conditions. We'll be sharing more as work continues and the properties begin to transform!
