Dear Maynard Family,

It's conference season! We look forward to joining our friends at the Online News Association for their hybrid in-person and virtual conference, ONA Insights (Oct. 14-15). Martin will be hosting a special edition of Belonging in the News that will build upon last month's Vision25 discussion on newsroom values at the OpenNews conference. Find registration information below!

This Saturday, Evelyn will be appearing on a panel for the Association of LGBTQ Journalists conference, "We Have New Leaders and New Titles. What About More Power?" which will also feature Michael Bolden of the San Francisco Chronicle, Krissah Thompson of the The Washington Post and Sharif Durhams (he/him) of the The News & Observer, the Herald-Sun and current NLGJA board president. Be sure to catch the conversation if you are attending.

Stay positive. Test negative.

With gratitude,
Evelyn Hsu and Martin G. Reynolds

The chef, author and activist offers analysis on the racist journalistic practices at play in the recent satirical article by Gene Weingarten, saying,"What’s puzzling is that editors and copy editors let his words through. Does The Post still have so little diversity among editors that this mini-screed raised no red flags? The paper issued a correction about the factual errors, but not the root of the issue: the bigotry."
