September 2021: Morris Township News Update

Disclaimer: This is a personal communication from Jeff Grayzel and does not represent an official communication from our local government or any other local authority.

Hello Neighbors,
I hope that most of you survived Hurricane Ida. Personally, I lost power to my home and got water in my basement – and I know others had similar issues. These “100 year storms” are coming way too frequently!

Due to the timing of the Jewish Yom Kippur holiday, our September Township Committee meeting was shifted to Tuesday, September 14. See details below.

Also on Tuesday, September 14, Morris Township will be holding its 20th anniversary 9/11 ceremony starting at 6:00pm. The ceremony will take place at our own 9/11 monument located adjacent the gazebo at Ginty Field. The public is invited to join the Township Committee, Police Color Guard, and other Public Safety representatives at this outdoors special event. You can view the program here:
https://www.morristwp.com/DocumentCenter/View/8532/911-Remembrance-Ceremony-1

Please read this entire newsletter to get fully informed and then please share it with your family and neighbors.

Morris Township Regular Meeting -- August 18, 2021
The Township Committee held a regular monthly meeting on August 18. The agenda for this meeting can be found here:
https://www.morristwp.com/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Agenda/_08182021-1217

As a reminder, video recording of each of our Township Committee meetings can be found on Morris Township’s YouTube page:
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxS482suIq4FW35sWpcQEiQ/videos

The meeting opened up with a moment of silence for two members of the community that had recently passed:

  • Firefighter Bill Pendergrast was a volunteer with our fire department for 52 years. He was also a police officer in our town.
  • Little League baseball icon Sam Champi who coached the Fairchild Fire Co. team in the Morristown National Little League for nearly four decades.

At many of our monthly meetings we honor people from our community for the good work they do either as volunteers or in other ways that they help the community.  At other times we celebrate accomplishments by our residents. This month we honored Nic Fink, Olympian, in honor of swimming at the 2021 Olympics for Team USA.  Nic was raised in the Cromwell Hills neighborhood of Morris Township, where his parents still live. He was presented with this proclamation:

Next we recognized the 11-and-under Morristown Area American Little League all-star team that won the NJ State Championship for their age group. They defeated Toms River East to win the 11-and-under state Little League Championship tournament in Cherry Hill. Congratulations boys!!

At the August 18 meeting there were three ordinances for final consideration. Read the full text of these ordinances here:
https://www.morristwp.com/DocumentCenter/View/8505/08-18-21-ORD-ADOPTION

Next up there was just ONE new ordinance for introduction at this meeting. Read the full text of these ordinances here:
https://www.morristwp.com/DocumentCenter/View/8419/07-21-21-ORD-INTRO

The meeting then continued with the Township Committee voting on 16 RESOLUTIONS. The full text of each resolution can be found here:
https://www.morristwp.com/DocumentCenter/View/8503/08-18-21-RESOLUTIONS

Next up were reports from our Standing Committees (varying combinations of two members from the Township Committee are assigned to various operating functions within the municipality to provide oversight), followed by individual commentary by each member of the Township Committee. The meeting concluded with “public inquiry” from our residents. You can listen to all this commentary by clicking on the video link below.

VIDEO recordings of Township Committee meetings are available on the township’s website! You can find the link on the municipal website’s “agenda center” (click on the camera icon) OR you can go directly to the YouTube channel:
