Reskilling the Recovery - Grants to recruit

Reskilling the RecoveryThe COVID-19 crisis has had an unprecedented impact, with SMEs amongst the hardest hit. Many firms have been forced to change the way that they operate and even restructure.

We are pleased to be supporting a new initiative, led by the London Progression Collaboration (LPC), to support SME recovery via a dedicated apprenticeship fund.

The Reskilling the Recovery campaign is helping large employers to pledge their unspent apprenticeship levy funds to enable small businesses to offer apprenticeship opportunities, recognising that the right people with the right skills are vital to business success. The apprenticeship opportunities created will help small businesses access training, as well as helping Londoners into work and to progress in work.

The campaign has already secured pledges of over £8M of unspent apprenticeship levy funds, which are immediately available to SMEs, and will cover the full cost of apprenticeship training for new and existing staff in their businesses.

As well as the funding, the London Progression Collaboration also offer businesses support and advice around how to get started with apprenticeships and how to make the most of the opportunities that they present. Their work is funded by the Mayor of London and J.P.Morgan so there is no cost to you.

If you would like to have a conversation with LPC about whether an apprenticeship would be right for your business and how to access the funding and support, please email Rob Singh at R.Singh@ippr.org

Consultation on proposals for low traffic neighbourhoods in Bounds Green, Bruce Grove, St Ann's. Live or work locally? Have your say.

Low Traffic Neighbourhoods

Giving local people space to walk, cycle and play in clean air without worrying about through traffic are the priorities of 3 schemes that launched for consultation on Monday 16 August.

More than a thousand people have already taken part in an engagement and co-design process to transform parts of Bounds Green, Bruce Grove/West Green and St Ann’s into Low Traffic Neighbourhoods (LTNs).

LTNs allow vehicle access for residents and businesses but remove motor traffic using residential streets as ‘rat-runs,’ with the aim of improving air quality and road safety.

Businesses, residents and schools were given the opportunity to comment on design options at workshops in May.

There are plenty of options to get involved in this round of public consultation as the local community will get a final say on what the LTNs will look like, and the phasing of the next steps.

The council is asking people to say what they think on measures designed to deliver on local priorities for improved air quality and reduced traffic volumes and speeds.

How to respond

Leaflets will be posted to every household and business in and around the proposed LTN area containing background information, maps and a hard copy of a survey questionnaire.

You can also share feedback by visiting the LTNs consultation page on our website, where you can find the results of the initial engagement. The deadline for responses is Friday 17 September 2021.

The results of the consultation will be considered by Cabinet in October before a final decision on the implementation and phasing of the 3 LTN schemes.
