VIRGINIA CYBERSECURITY EDUCATOR AWARDS

We introduced the Virginia Cybersecurity Educator Award at this year's conference. This award recognizes excellence in cybersecurity education in Virginia.

Awardees were nominated by colleagues who could comment on both the educators achievements, and their students’ achievements.

The committee met and selected two recipients for the 2021 award. Congratulations to Erik Breede & Kristi Rice!

Erik Breede

Erik has been teaching in Hampton City Schools for 14 years. He holds Microsoft Networking Fundamentals, MS Security Fundamentals, and CompTIA Security+ certifications.

At Phoebus High School, Erik has built a cybersecurity lab for hands-on teaching and learning. In addition to teaching he serves as a CyberPatriot and CTF coach.

Erik received the 2019 Technology Leadership Award and he has been nominated for the Presidential Cybersecurity Education Award.

Kristi Rice

Kristi teaches three different cybersecurity courses in Spotsylvania County Public Schools.

She advises the Cyber Knights club at her school where she has expanded membership by 700% last year. The Cyber Knights placed 2nd out of 160 Virginia schools in the 2020 Girls Go CyberStart competition.

During the summer Kristi has helped lead GenCyber and CCI workshops that reached over 100 teachers. She has also created and hosted a teacher professional development series called, "HackItUp with Kristi and Friends", during the COVID pandemic.

Do you know an outstanding Virginia cybersecurity educator? Look for our call for nominations in 2022!

Thank you to all our conference sponsors and exhibitors!

We wouldn't have been able to pull off a successful virtual conference without the support from our sponsors and exhibitors.

COURSEWARE NEWS
Start off the new school year with new courseware!

Module J: Metasploitable CTF is the tenth of 18 modules in the Cyber Security Advanced Ethical Hacking course.

This module covers the Metasploitable 3 CTF challenges. Metasploitable is a capture the flag (CTF) that is used initially to help sell and train users on the Rapid 7 Metasploit product; however, it is used to help train security professionals and would-be ethical hackers how to find, exploit, and possibly mitigate vulnerabilities. Students in this module will be challenged to take what they have learned and apply it to hunting for security vulnerabilities.
