CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND launches our Cinema Sounds series with its focus on great film scores. This 1977 film was one of the earliest collaborations between composer John Williams and director Steven Spielberg. The pair went on to rack up an astonishing number of major motion picture successes, but CLOSE ENCOUNTERS remains one of Williams' own favorite scores. (Buy tickets)

PRISONERS OF THE GHOSTLAND is a new film starring Nicolas Cage in perhaps the strangest role he's ever played. (Buy tickets) That's saying a lot. Sion Sono directed.

In it, a notorious criminal is sent to rescue an abducted woman who has disappeared into a dark supernatural universe. They must break the evil curse that binds them and escape the mysterious revenants that rule the Ghostland, an East-meets-West vortex of beauty and violence.
