Mission Statement

Our aim at DigitalFUTURES is to democratize architectural education by making important architectural ideas available for free to architects and students across the globe, regardless of gender, religion, ethnicity, age or economic standing. Education, we believe, should be a human right, and not a privilege of the wealthy.

DigitalFUTURES Workshops:

DigitalFUTURES would like to thank all the instructors and students for their generous contributions to our InclusiveFUTURES summer festival of workshops. Without you, none of this amazing festival would have been possible. We would also like to thank those who contributed to the regional reviews of our InclusiveFUTURES workshops

Education remains central to our mission. In response to popular demand, we have now decided to host technical tutorials throughout the year as part of our Saturday live streaming events. In addition to our theme-based panel discussions, we will therefore introduce a series of technical tutorials, operating at a range of different skill levels from introductory to advanced. These tutorials will be taught by some of our summer workshop instructors, and will cover the latest techniques and tools, from basic tools, such as Rhino, through to the latest AI techniques. Initially these tutorials were taught in English, but eventually we hope to host all future events in a range of different languages, in the spirit of InclusiveFUTURES.

Students may either attend our Saturday tutorials on Zoom, by registering in advance, or follow them on our live-streaming channels on YouTube, FaceBook and Bilibili. All technical tutorials will be recorded as a resource for future students and posted on our Youtube and BiliBili channels.

Upcoming Events

All events will be live-streamed on Youtube and BiliBili.

DigitalFUTURES Talk: New Hybridities: Young Chinese Designers

11 September at 10:00am EDT / 4:00pm CET / 10:00pm China

This panel brings together a group of highly talented young Chinese artists and architects. Coming from a range of architectural backgrounds, and with experience of both the East and West, these individuals avidly investigate the cutting edge of space-making, at the intersection between the digital and the physical, if not fully digital. Using tools and media such as scanning, simulation, animation, gaming and VR, they project the real onto the virtual and the virtual onto the real, expanding the imagination of the viewer through the immersive experience of their entanglement.

Presentations by: Yang Rui, Weng Kefan, Reva Fan Yiwen, Ji Shi, Kaiho Yu

DigitalFUTURES Talk: Brazilian Favelas: Different Perspectives

25 September at 10:00am EDT / 4:00pm CET / 10:00pm China

Informal settlements present social-economic and political challenges for many countries. In Brazil, favelas play an important role in our culture. In this panel discussion, the challenges of the favela will be examined from a computational perspective, in an effort to shed light on the many issues involved. This session will showcase the work of researchers taking different yet intersecting approaches, and working at a range of scales - from the urban, though to dwelling typologies, and design at the scale of the object.

Presentations by: Débora Verniz, Verônica Natividade, Maria Ângela Dias & Margaret Chokyu

Moderated by: Angélica Paiva Ponzio
