Announcing New Future Earth Global Secretariat Hubs

To better engage with critical sustainability issues, Future Earth is making a bold shift to become a more inclusive, accessible, transparent, and transformative organization, working to promote sustainability science across local, national, and global levels.

Earlier this year, Future Earth opened a call for expressions of interest to host Global Secretariat Hubs (as well as a Global Coordination Hub, to be announced in the near future) to any country or region working to promote global sustainability science and seeking to support Future Earth’s global mission. After a rigorous review process, Future Earth is pleased to announce its eight Global Secretariat Hubs here.

Lancet Publication Series on Heat and Health launched with Health Knowledge-Action Network co-chairs

The Lancet Series on Heat and Health is undertaken by Health Knowledge-Action Network co-chairs Anthony Capon and Kristie Ebi. Together with Professor Ollie Jay from the University of Sydney, they developed a timely series combining the knowledge related to extreme heat and what can be done on various scales to mitigate the effects of heat and prevent mortality.

As the global community contends with even hotter weather in a changing climate, there was a pressing need to better understand the most effective prevention and response measures, particularly in low-resource settings. The series brings together perspectives from epidemiology, physiology and medicine with those from climate science, built environment, and sustainable development. Upcoming SSCP KAN Webinar Series: Grappling with the Question of Sustainable Consumption in the Global South

A three-part webinar series will be organized by the Working Group on the Political Economy of Sustainable Consumption and Production on 15, 22 and 28 September 2021. Mainstream sustainability discourse usually holds that the Global South is poor, and therefore, the question of how to talk about sustainable consumption in the Global South is irrelevant. While it most certainly is a question for the “rich world” and the rich world needs to take primary responsibility, the Global South is also urgently confronted by it in unique ways.

This three-part series of interactive webinars invites you to join scholars and activists to explore and advance an appropriate vocabulary and knowledge-action agenda for sustainable consumption in the Global South. Find more information and registration details here.
