Hello,

It’s hard to believe that we’re sending out our second dose of Gut Friendly Living to so many of you already. With the summer holiday period coming to a close in the northern half of the world, many of us start to prepare for the “Back to School” rush, a return to routine, an uptick in the pace of work and possibly a return to the office for the first time in months.

The anxiety that can come with this heightened pace, increasing responsibilities and the continued adjustment to “new” ways of working can lead to a worsening of your gut symptoms if you have a condition like IBS, Functional Dyspepsia or IBD. But in fact we, and our guts in particular can all benefit from taking steps to manage stress and anxiety and to practice some self-care. You can learn more about this and gain some practical tips in the Self-Care article below.

“Inclusivity not exclusivity” is our motto when it comes to diet and gut conditions. We want to help you enjoy a rich and varied diet that benefits your gut and overall health whilst enabling you to take pleasure from food. That means taking a balanced approach to your diet that includes nutritious, lean protein rich foods like fish, plenty of plant-based foods and wholegrains, as much as it does enjoying the occasional dessert and sweet treat. So, we’ve included a delicious pavlova recipe and a guide to some gut friendly sweet treats in this issue.

During September we’re planning a special focus on exercise and the gut. So please join us on Instagram and Facebook to gain practical pre- and post- exercise diet tips and to learn more about the many, many reasons exercise is so good for us.

Stay well, eat well.

The Gut Experts,

Professor Barbara and Dietitian Elaine

Fish is a key part of a Mediterranean-style diet, which has been shown to be excellent for gut and total body health. It’s highly nutritious, versatile, and it doesn’t cause problems for people with gut conditions like IBS or FD.

We're huge fish fans at The Gut Experts, so much so that Professor Barbara visited her local fish market to talk all things fish with fishmonger Nathan Rock.
