MEAP Partners with WindowDressers

In a previous CME edition, we highlighted the work of WindowDressers. In collaboration with WindowDressers, many of our MEAP members will be hosting a build in their local community in the coming weeks to build free window insulating inserts for qualifying homes to save both money and the environment. Please visit WindowDresser's website to get more information about upcoming community builds. There are plenty of volunteer opportunities as well. You may even qualify to receive inserts for free!

Check out MEAP's resource guide for information about energy efficiency, incentives/rebates, and our program. Our very own MEAP members created this excellent resource for households and communities. The information provided will help lower your energy use and energy costs!
A New Lease on Energy Guidance for Improving Rental Housing Efficiency at the Local Level (ACEEE, August 4, 2021)
Rental homes are typically less energy-efficient than owner-occupied ones, leaving many renters with high energy burdens. This guide presents a series of actions that local governments can take to reduce energy use in rental properties, preserve or increase housing affordability, and build the capacity of local communities to design, or implement equitable rental energy efficiency program options.
Special Highlight: Organization Making a Difference

This edition's notable organization goes to GrowSmart Maine. Located in Augusta, ME, Grow Smart Maine's, "...goal is to ensure that future generations can prosper and choose to call Maine home." Three of our members are currently serving with GrowSmart Maine to make a difference in communities throughout Maine.

Facts and
Tips

FACT:
According to the Maine Climate Council's Maine Won't Wait, A Four-Year Plan for Climate Action:
  • Maine spends approximately $4.4 billion annually on imported fossil fuels

  • 89% of Maine's land is covered by forests. 60% of Maine's annual carbon emissions are absorbed by our forests

  • The primary heating source for 60% of Maine households are heating oil- the highest in the U.S.

TIP:

As we near the fall season, it will be important to keep you warm and comfortable in your home. One tip to follow is to naturally heat your home by drawing the curtains of south-facing windows during the day. This way, you'll let the sunshine in and you'll save money on your heating bill while enjoying the fall foliage.
