Create Sheffield Update

Why Creativity Matters NOW

Join in our big conversation about arts and cultural education in Sheffield, part of the Learn Sheffield Autumn Online Festival. Online 4th-22nd October 2021. Register your interest here before 10th Sept.

Sheffield is fortunate to have a wealth of arts and cultural organisations that offer incredible opportunities to schools. The Why Creativity Matters NOW conversations will introduce these organisations to schools, help to inspire schools with the possibilities of working with arts, cultural and heritage practitioners, and make long lasting connections between the two sectors.

Join us online in the first 3 weeks of October 2021 to talk about how arts and cultural experiences can support recovery in the post-pandemic world. Help us to build our city-wide strategy for arts and cultural education in Sheffield. Visit our website to find out more.

Over the three weeks schools & educational settings will;

  • Understand why a focus on arts and creativity is so vital now, in the post-pandemic world

  • Learn about the range of creative opportunities on offer in Sheffield

  • Be inspired by case studies of creative education projects and share their own experiences

  • Connect with creative organisations in Sheffield and learn how to make these connections successful

  • Inform Sheffield’s city-wide creative education strategy going forward

Why Creativity Matters NOW, who is it for?

There will be opportunities for all phases of education from early years to post-16, both to consider their approach to creativity, and to inform our city-wide strategy for arts and cultural education in Sheffield. We want to hear & share everyone’s viewpoint. Wherever you are in your career this conversation is for you.

There are opportunities to both take part and also to inspire others with your experiences. There is some funding available, get in touch for more details.

Arts & Cultural Education - Assessing Access in Sheffield Data Report - Follow-up questionnaire

This time last year, Create Sheffield sent a questionnaire that helped draw a picture of the arts and cultural learning taking place in schools and communities across Sheffield. A summary of the report is available on our website.

We know that the gap in education has widened over the last year. We feel it is critical that schools have the opportunity to feedback on the impact of the pandemic and national lockdowns on arts and culture activities in schools. This new questionnaire follows-up on last year’s findings and provides a unique opportunity to map the changes that have happened in arts and culture for children and young people in Sheffield during the Covid lockdowns.

Planning an effective response to take us forward after the pandemic relies on a deep understanding of the effects of this last year across Sheffield schools. Thank you for taking the time to be part of this journey.

Please take 15 minutes to complete the questionnaire using this link Create Sheffield Arts and Culture Questionnaire

Thank you for your support.

Sheffield Theatres

Storyframe is back and now booking for spring 2022!

Storyframe is a term-long creative project embedded into the curriculum which practically engages children and young people with every aspect of storytelling and the theatre-making process, including playwriting, technical theatre, design, marketing and performing. Through weekly sessions led by an experienced playwright and drama specialist, with a literacy and drama focus, your class will develop an exciting narrative drawn from their cross curricula learning. Enriched with a tour and explore of the theatres and technical workshops, this narrative is then transformed into a brand new piece of theatre, written in collaboration with them and for them to perform.

Feedback from schools and students:

“Staff, children and parents were delighted with the outcome of this project.”

“Many children have been inspired to become more involved in the theatre as a result.”

“The whole group have made great progress in performance, showing confidence and resilience.”

When: Spring term 2022, commencing January and culminating with a festival performance in the theatres March 14-15.

Cost: £500 plus VAT (max 30 participants). Suitable for: KS1-3
