Three new Glenbard student scholarships established in 2021. One by the family of Peter A. Jeske, 2017 Glenbard South High School graduate to honor his life and his memory. A second scholarship was established by the family of Peter J. Abruzzo to honor his long tenure as an educator at Glenbard South High School. The third student scholarship was established by Jeff Long and his wife Jodi Long. Jeff is a Glenbard East graduate and established the annual scholarship for a Glenbard East student who will attend the University of Illinois.

Our PEP partners positively impact the lives of students, faculty, staff, and families each year. We are so grateful for your commitment to education. The PEP Board of Trustees continue our commitment to creatively increasing outreach to all students across the Glenbard community.

Supporting all in our school communities,

Erica

Thank you!

The 2020-21 school year was a time like no other for students, families and educators. The Covid-19 crisis pushed us all to the limits of flexibility, resilience and fortitude. And, with job loss and shifts in operations, many in our school communities were left struggling to make ends meet. Our organizations came together in remarkable ways to help hundreds of students and families. Here are just a few of the PEP-sponsored programs that provided assistance to those in need in our Glenbard communities:

The Glenbard Needy Family Fund, D41 Kids Foundation, Supplies 4 Success, The Ross Foundation, The PEP General Fund

Program Spotlight:
CASE Collaborative and the GECC

The Glenbard Early Childhood Collaborative (GECC) is actively working to support families with children prenatally to age 5 all year round.  This time of year, the CASE office is a happy reminder of the excitement and flurry that comes with the start of school.

The start of the school year for us means implementing and growing programs to support our youngest learners and their families.  We know that 85% of brain development occurs prior to a child turning three.  Developmental Screenings can offer parents a “window” into the development of their child.  By participating in a screening, parents can learn of individualized resources available to support them as their child’s first and most important teacher.

Families living across the Glen Ellyn, Glendale Heights, Lombard area can now access the developmental screening tools ASQ-3 and ASQ SE2 directly for FREE, on our webpage http://bit.ly/glenbardecc.  In addition, our GECC community partners are creating a plan to best reach families and ensure every child, birth to age five, has access to screenings.

In addition to screenings, we have started a robust Parent Advisory Council, are working on some COVID relief efforts, finalizing our new Charter, and supporting county-wide efforts towards coordinated intake for home visiting programs.

Lastly, we have been working with the Glenbard Parent Series to offer a lineup of presenters focused on the parenting of young children.  We are very excited to be co-sponsoring three events this year starting with Janine Halloran: Social Skills and Anxiety Solutions for the Early Child: Start Strong on Tuesday, August 31st at Noon and 7pm.

Cooperative Association for Special Education (CASE) has been an amazing, collaborative partner in GECC’s efforts to support families in our community.  Of course, this is in addition to providing special education services and support for students across our member districts. CASE is also working to build the capacity of our staff across our districts.  Robust professional development options and innovative Glenbard Parent Series speakers are some of the many ways CASE supports the continued learning of our schools’ staff. Returning to school amid these changing times, CASE is doing what it can to support students and staff.

News from our Sponsored Organizations:

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library: Glen Ellyn D41 Schools Affiliate

At the end of June, the D41 Kids Foundation, with the support of the Rotary Club of Glen Ellyn, launched a local affiliate of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. The flagship program of The Dollywood Foundation mails personalized, age-appropriate books every month to registered children from birth to age 5 who live within District 41 school boundaries. The goal of the program is to foster a lifelong love of reading and develop positive increases in key early childhood literacy skills. Since launching the program last month, the foundation has registered 194 children, about 20% of the 2,056 eligible children living within the district.

Sponsorship is only $27 per child per year, an investment that will provide every registered child 12 books a year, one book a month delivered to their home. To raise the money to cover the cost for each child, the D41 Kids Foundation is currently raffling off a hand-made quilt by a local artist. For every child sponsored, the donor will receive one raffle ticket. As of this writing, the generosity that defines our community is on full display, helping the Foundation to raise $10,301 so far. Our goal is to register 550 children by September 23, when we will pull the winning ticket for the D41 Kids Imagination Library Quilt. To purchase tickets and support this exciting endeavor, please visit  bit.ly/d41kids.

The program is free to families and they can register eligible children at www.d41kids.org

Golf Outing

Additionally, the D41 Kids Foundation will be holding their first golf outing on September 23rd at the Village Links, located at 48 Winchell Way, Glen Ellyn. Registration begins at 12:30 with dinner following at 7:00 pm. Registrants will receive range balls, golf, dinner, and two drink tickets. Live music and good company will compliment what promises to be a fun-filled day. To register for this event please go to D41Kids.org.

Why PEP?
