"A short story is a different thing all together - a short story is like a kiss in the dark from a stranger."

-Stephen King

Come Join Us!

We meet twice a week. For the safety and comfort of all our members, we currently only meet through Zoom.

Tuesdays with a Twist!
7:00 pm
Tuesdays are totally informal. We socialize, brainstorm, and get some words down on the page with timed writing sprints.

Thursday Gatherings
7:00 pm
Thursdays are a little more formal. We start out with some social time, followed by announcements, and then we split into groups for critiquing and fun writing activities.

You can expect Steve's Writing Corner on the 1st Thursday of every month and we usually have a guest speaker on the 3rd Thursday of every month.

Email us for the links. We sure would love to see you!

Things To Look
Forward To This Month

Steve's Reading Corner

At our Thursday meeting on September 2, we get the pleasure of listening to a live reading by William Mangieri. His stories are usually science fiction and always thought-provoking and enjoyable.

Guest Speaker

On Thursday, September 16, we're so excited to welcome Kathryn McClatchy. Her presentation will be "About Flash Fiction."

"Flash Fiction isn't new, but doesn't get as much attention as other forms of storytelling. Come learn why you should be writing Flash Fiction, what it is, how to go about it, who reads it, and more.

Kathryn McClatchy has been writing Flash Fiction pieces for many years, and is the founder and facilitator of the Writers Guild of Texas annual fall Flash Fiction Contest."

We look forward to her presentation, and if you're interested in learning more about the aforementioned contest, check out our Special Events section below.

Special Events

Happy anniversary to us! Carrollton League of Writers is 3 years old! We'll be celebrating this milestone at our September 9th meeting. We hope to see all your beautiful, smiling faces, both familiar and new.
Do you enjoy writing Flash Fiction? Are you new to Flash Fiction, but looking for a new challenge? Look no further than the 7th annual Writers Guild of Texas Flash Fiction Contest! As mentioned above, this contest is facilitated by the lovely Kathryn McClatchy. Please spread the word far and wide to all your writer friends. For more information, or to enter, click here. Good luck!
Did you know that there are different kinds of character arcs? Have you ever wanted to learn more about what a full character arc looks like and how it fits into a plot structure? I know, as a pantser, I struggle with this, so I'm really looking forward to our next special event. Beginning October 7th, Carrollton League of Writers will be offering a 4-week workshop using the "Creating Character Arcs Workbook" by K.M. Weiland. If you'd like to participate in this workshop, you can get your copy of the workbook here. Stay tuned for more information as the date gets closer.

A Round of Applause!

This month we have 2 very special members to celebrate.
Andrea Amosson's book, "Las Mujeres De La Guerra" or "Women of War," has won 2 International Latino Book Awards: 2nd Place, Best Latino Focus Book category; and Honorable Mention, Best Historical Fiction category. You can get your copy here.
Bailey Wynne published a beautiful children's book about the power of love through touch. You can get your copy here and share the love.

Great job, ladies! We're so proud to call you part of the Carrollton League of Writers family!
