EuroGOOS contributes to leading marine research

This August, EuroGOOS was featured in two leading academic publications. Inga Lips co-authored an article on ‘Science for Good Environmental Status: A European Joint Action to Support Marine Policy’, published in Sustainability, and George Petihakis co-authored a study on ‘Collaborative Automation and IoT technologies for coastal ocean observing systems’ in Frontiers in Marine Science. Discover both articles on the EuroGOOS revamped Scientific Publications webpage.
EuroGOOS Best Practices

Are you involved in the international Ocean Best Practices System? Bring your contributions to the EuroGOOS Best Practices collection available in this sustained open-access online repository, coordinated by IOC-UNESCO! By making our methods and practices openly available, discoverable and accessible, we are enabling the broader ocean observing community to access, use, and review our methods and transfer knowledge globally.

You can find the EuroGOOS collection of best practices here. When you submit a new publication or document to the Ocean Best Practices System, please select the EuroGOOS collection.
European FLOTANT project, coordinated by PLOCAN, tested in the offshore basin of MARIN

The European FLOTANT project, led by the Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands (PLOCAN), has concluded the validation model tests at the Maritime Research Institute Netherlands (MARIN) facilities. The project aims to develop an innovative and low-cost floating offshore wind technology optimized for deep water, contributing to the European Commission’s objective of a fully decarbonized power system by 2050. More information is available here.
Cefas scientists support new programmes to address marine pollution

Scientists at the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (Cefas) will support UK-led programmes which focus on protecting the marine environment, fighting plastic pollution and the decline of global coral reefs, and responding to marine pollution disasters. A new programme will help developing countries team up with the UK’s leading scientists to better manage marine protected areas. Read more here.
NOC contributes to new study on the Arctic Ocean's currents

Scientists from the National Oceanography Centre (NOC) and Alfred Wegener Institute have contributed to a new study on the Arctic. Findings reveal that a strong surface current in the Arctic Ocean, the Transpolar Drift, is more variable than previously known. The study could impact predictions on ocean temperature and carbon dioxide in the Arctic environment while also helping improve the prediction of climate extremes worldwide. Learn more here.
CNR joins the Visiting ERC Fellowship Program

The National Research Council of Italy (CNR) has joined the Visiting Fellowship Programme (VFP) of the European Research Council (ERC). The VFP will enable CNR researchers to visit an ERC grant holder to expand their professional experience and carry out research. The programme is scheduled to be launched in early 2022. More information is available here.
