WE Bike to the Bronx - City Island and Orchard Beach
Saturday, September 25
Meet at 10:00am, wheels down at 10:30am
Charles A. Dana Discovery Center at north end of Central Park, between Malcolm X. Blvd and 5th Ave, Manhattan

RSVP

Join WE Bike NYC for a last hurrah of the summer with a social ride to City Island and Orchard Beach in the Bronx! We'll meet up at the Charles A. Dana Discovery Center at the north end of Central Park, between Malcolm X Blvd and 5th Ave. We'll make our way up through the Bronx and Pelham Bay Park to City Island and stop at Johnny's Reef Restaurant for lunch at their outdoor tables, with views of the water, where the East River meets the Long Island Sound. There are also several other food options along City Island Ave.

After lunch, we'll bike back through Pelham Bay Park to Orchard Beach where we can relax on the sand and even dip in the water, if you like. This is a one way ride.

This ride is appropriate for intermediate riders, who have experience riding in traffic. The route is approximately 16 miles with some hills. All bikes are welcome! Bring full water bottles, cash for food purchases, sunscreen, a mask, a lock, and your helmet. If you plan to go in the water, you may want to bring a swimsuit and towel as well.

Note: This event is for women, female-identifying and gender nonconforming people only.

Meet a WE Biker: Cindy Chan

Every volunteer brings something special to our organization. And WE count on them—whether they’re leading our rides, writing our newsletters, responding to mail, building our website. This month's volunteer is Cindy Chan. Get to know Cindy here!

How did you first learn about WE Bike NYC?
I saw a free event by WE Bike NYC about Citi Bikes on the REI class calendar page. They were also giving away free 30-minute Citi Bike rides. Who doesn't want free things? Ha ha ha!

What do you do as a WE Bike NYC volunteer?
I help where I can when I can, but mostly I help behind the scenes with updating the website.

What draws you to the bike community?
I just learned to bike a few years ago and I love it. For a native New Yorker who only walks, or rides the busses or subways, it's new-found freedom in the open air transportation route.

Why do you love WE Bike NYC?
I love WE Bike NYC because it's a community of women from all different careers who are linked by their love of biking and helping each other rise together in their knowledge and skills in biking.
