COVID-19 vaccination progress for the Mackay region

The Mackay District Disaster Management Group has released updated vaccine data for the Mackay region.

As of Monday (August 30), 59,910 doses had been administered, with 22.9 per cent of the community fully immunised and 42.7% partially immunised.

Excitement blooming for
orchid extravaganza
 

Hundreds of orchids will be on display when the Orchid Extravaganza returns on September 12.

The Ken Burgess Display House (the Orchid House) at Queens Park will come alive from 8am to 4pm with orchid workshops, demonstrations, auctions, and plant sales.

Mayor Greg Williamson said orchid lovers would be in for a treat.

Mackay Disability Expo
happening Monday

With the introduction of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), the disability sector has grown exponentially in our region.

Never have we seen so many passionate providers in the sector.

The 2021 Mackay Disability Expo will be held on Monday (Sept 6), at the Andergrove Community Centre on Celeber Drive from 9am to 1pm.

Bluewater Lagoon closed until further notice

Bluewater Lagoon will remain closed as council investigates serious structural issues.

A new reopening date is unknown until the extent of the structural concerns is determined and a plan is put in place to remedy them.

Council will keep the public updated and in the interim is providing free entry at the Mackay ARC on Saturdays and Sundays.

Nominate a local
sporting star

For 30 years the North Queensland Sport Foundation (NQSF) has been recognising and celebrating the north’s sports stars.

This year, after a 2020 hiatus, the Foundation, of which council is a member, is going all out.

Awards and thousands of dollars in prize money will be presented across seven categories.

Nominations are open and residents are encouraged to nominate local sports stars.

New pathway for Eimeo and Blacks Beach 

A four-kilometre shared pathway will connect Melanie Street in Eimeo to Pacific Drive in Blacks Beach to improve road safety and connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists in the area.
 
The pathway will connect to the existing shared pathway from Old Eimeo Road to the northern outskirts of Eimeo.
 
Works will commence near Melanie Street and are expected to be completed by December.
