Dear Neighbour

It's September and that means "Back to School" for students across the country. It is typically an exciting time, but I understand that this year, both students and parents are anxious regarding what the year will look like. We are hoping for a successful school year, with a safe in-class learning environment for all York Centre students.

Our office has been focused on ensuring students are supported in restarting their schooling this year, given the many challenges they face. That is why we were excited to host our latest "Back to School" event at Downsview Park this past week, where we provided free ice cream, backpacks for students, and a vaccination opportunity for anyone who wanted it.

It was incredibly successful, attracting over 700 people throughout the day! We were fortunate to partner with Duke Heights BIA in giving away 300 backpacks with school supplies to deserving students starting the school year.

As we head into the later part of the year, we're focused on continuing to deliver results for our community, and hearing how we can help.

As always, please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns, by phone at (416) 392 1371 or by email at Councillor_Pasternak@Toronto.ca.

Keep safe,

Councillor James Pasternak

Palisades Co-op 25th Anniversary and Back-to-School Event

It was my great pleasure to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Palisades Co-op by giving out backpacks with school supplies to the children for the start of their school year. We were also able to cut the ribbon for the new basketball court on the premises, and everyone enjoyed some delicious ice cream. It was a great event!

St. Conrad Vaccination Clinic

We worked with Humber River Hospital and local members of the community to set up a clinic at St Conrad Catholic School with the support of Trustee Maria Rizzo. A big shout out to our amazing volunteers who came out to support us.

Multicultural Celebration at Earl Bales Park

I had the great pleasure of attending the Multicultural Celebration organized by Friends of Earl Bales. Beautiful performances included Star School, Nirkoda, Korean and Persian folk dance, as well as a puppet show. Nostalgic for the old days when we could come together and celebrate our diverse cultures. Looking forward to next year, when we can hopefully enjoy more of such events.

Bell Box Murals Unveiling

I am excited to announce that York Centre's Bell Box Murals Project is complete! We have 23 new beautiful murals, created by local artists, adorning our local neighbourhoods for Mayor John Tory's Year of Public Art. You can find these new murals when you drive along Wilson and Keele.
The Bell Box Murals Project is spearheaded by Michael Cavanaugh and Andrea Rodriguez. It is supported by City of Toronto, Bell Media and DUKE Heights BIA.

Back to School Event at Downsview Park

Our Back-to-School event on August 30 at Downsview Park was a huge hit! Big thanks to Duke Heights BIA for donating over 300 backpacks with school supplies and to Humber River Hospital for hosting a vaccination clinic for the first and second doses. Our appreciation goes also to TPS 31 Division for coming out and supporting this event! Last but not least, a free ice cream cone is always welcome on a hot day!
