Contemporary Dance Hub
WCD is thrilled to be a Contemporary Dance Hub for Nuit Blanche and Culture Days! We are thrilled to host several events, all events are free or “Pay What You May”.
WCD has a few new LED lights and a new headset system!
The new LED lights bring a more energy-efficient lighting fixture to our inventory and make some upstage lighting options available for those who love to perform close to the brick wall. Special thanks to Hugh Conacher and Claude Robert for their work to bring this custom-built lighting upgrade to WCD!
We are also now wireless! The Rachel Browne Theatre is now outfitted with a Clear-Com HME DX210 Dual-Channel Wireless Intercom with 3 stations, one each for our Venue Technician, a Stage Manager, and an Assistant Stage Manager. No more extension cords!
Rent Our Space
We are taking rentals!
The Rachel Browne Theatre is located in the heart of Winnipeg’s historic Exchange District and could be the ideal location for your next event or function.
Our space is available to rent for dance, theatre, and music performances, as well as workshops, lectures, filming, and fundraisers.
The theatre is outfitted with a deluxe riser and seating system, a production booth, as well as lighting and sound equipment, which makes it one of the best equipped and most intimate houses of its size in town! With a focus on dance, the theatre is outfitted with a sprung Marley dance floor and side lighting (shins and mids).
Recently updated with signage on three sides of The McKim Building, the venue is easy to find, accessible by major bus routes, and located in Winnipeg’s vibrant theatre district.
The Rachel Browne Theatre stands out as an exceptional rental venue for rehearsals for its large pillar-free space and sprung floor.
Lots of street parking and surface lots are available in the immediate area with free street parking available evenings and weekends. One hour free street parking weekdays. Metered parking prices were also reduced by 75 cents/hour last year.
Our space is available to rent as a fully equipped theatre or as a studio for rehearsal. More details can be foundHERE.
The health of visitors, artists, and staff is a top priority. We appreciate your support as we work together to keep each other safe. Rentals must follow government recommendations and public health orders.
Summer 2021
While many things continue to be impacted by the Covid pandemic, WCD has worked hard to be responsive and adaptable to support artists, share our work, and embrace opportunities.
Highlights of the 2021 summer include dancers on-site for project work, touring to Festival des Arts Saint-Sauveur to perform Jera Wolfe’s Begin Again, four screenings of the online presentation of Begin Again in Hong Kong, completing & releasing our online Artist Talk for Body & Light, working on a new creation in Montreal, launching our new website, and beginning a renovation for a gender-neutral accessible washroom within our facility.
