Designed To Work
Romans 16:12
Greet Tryphena and Tryphosa, those women who work hard in the Lord. Greet my dear friend Persis, another woman who has worked very hard in the Lord.
Tryphena, and Tryphosa, and Persis. These three women made The Book not because of their demonstration of a spiritual gift, or because of some miracle that was attached to their lives, but because of their hard work. Could it be that we have somehow not grasped the significance of our work? Could it be that we have misunderstood and come to think of it as intrusive, or burdensome, or limiting? Work isn’t something we endure until we get to do something more important. Work is not a punishment that is put upon us to keep us from a more leisurely way to live. We are designed by our Creator with the capacity for work—both physically and mentally—and work is one of the ways we honor God. My parents thought work was a positive thing, and one of their goals was to teach me to work. I didn’t always appreciate it at the time, but that lesson has been a blessing in my life.
THINK ABOUT IT
Do you work “with all your heart, as working for the Lord”? (Colossians 3:23)
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, thank You for those who have modeled good work habits, teaching me the value of finishing a job, no matter how difficult. Thank You for giving me a sound mind and strength to work and diligently serve You all my days. In Jesus’ name, amen.
