From Our Principal - Dr. Bonita Jungels

Greetings NDA families!

We are so grateful to be back in school this week! Seeing the students enjoy being together again is priceless. We celebrated Mass outdoors yesterday; wow, it was so beautiful. Each day we are making wonderful memories; be sure to ask your child about a favorite highlight of the day.

We appreciate your patience as we work through the bus issues. Mrs. Flom is working very closely with both Hopkins and Lake Country to correct the issues. Some of the challenges are typical first week of school issues that get worked out once students understand the routine and drivers learn the system. Other issues include challenges with road construction and getting the routes fine tuned. In any case, we expect next week to be a better experience. And we will be getting information on the bus app which will improve communication on the daily bus rides as well.

Safety Plan - We are updating our School Safety Plan for August/September to clarify the quarantine procedures for close contacts and COVID cases. The updated plan is on our NDA website.

Next week is our NDA Curriculum Night. We are going to offer a couple of different options for families. We will have a Sign Up Genius for each teacher K-5 and two for MS Advisors. Each teacher will have two in person options (with a ten family maximum) and one zoom option. We will require all people coming to the “in person” sessions to wear a mask. We hope this format will give everyone an appropriate option for their family. If there are any teachers who you are not able to connect with on Curriculum Night, please reach out to them via email to set up an appointment. The Sign Ups will be shared on Tuesday. The Zoom links will be shared on Wednesday.

Thank you for sharing your children with our NDA community. We wish your family a safe and very special long weekend.

With gratitude,

Dr. Bonita Jungels

New Information

NDA in the News
If you haven't had the chance to watch Dr. Jungels's interview with a reporter from KSTP, Channel 5, you may read our latest news blog and watch the clip. It sure was cool to see NDA on TV!

Carline Reminders
Please note that parents who do not have preschoolers should stay in the car line for pick up. If you do need to park to pick up your preschooler, please cross the carline at the stop sign (instead of between cars). We understand the Excelsior construction is causing more cars to enter the lot out of line. When in line, please pull up tightly, and then pick up and drop off as quickly as possible. We will be monitoring the flow and continue to adjust our instructions as needed for both the morning and afternoon routines.

Chess Club
We will have a delayed start to Chess Club this year. Please stay tuned for more information.

After School Activities
Please be sure to email the office with your child's plans for after school. It is important for us to know if they are going home on the bus, to practice or to youth group. Thank you!

Parent Resources Website Page
Please note that our resource page includes the latest links to forms, sign ups, carline instructions and calendars for your reference. We recently added the middle school academic schedules and the parent forms we need turned into the office as soon as possible.

Grandparents Day
Please note that we moved our Grandparents/VIP Celebration to the spring. We will share a firm date and the details later in the year.

Greetings from the Lions' Den Cafe!
Our students successfully completed their first week of lunch in the cafeteria. Based on the requests for extra fruits, vegetables and milk, we know they are very hungry lions since they have recess before lunch.

As a reminder, hot lunch is free this year and it does include milk. Extra milk, cold lunch milk and extra entree all have fees associated with them. Milk is 60 cents and extra entree is $2.50. Since many of our students have taken advantage of this extra food, please make sure to check your lunch balances in Sycamore. When an account goes negative, you will receive an email from the cafeteria. Please set expectations with your student on whether you want them to take these extra options in the cafeteria, as some of them may not be aware of the cost.

Lunch money should be sent into the school office, clearly labeled LUNCH MONEY and indicate the family name. Checks should be made payable to NDA, cash is also accepted. If you ever have any doubt your payment made it to the office, please don't hesitate to email: cafeteria@nda-mn.org

NDA Parents and Caregivers:
As we did last year, volunteers are needed to help with recess and some light lunch assistance. The sign up is available here NDA 2021-22 Recess Volunteer Sign Up

The shifts this year include:
11am – 12:05p: Two volunteers needed to assist with K-2 recess, hand washing/sanitizing, and condiment distribution for lunch for this group of students. From 11:40-12:05 assist with grades 3-5 recess.
12:00p – 1:00p: One volunteer needed to assist with hand washing/sanitizing and condiment distribution for grades 3-5 from 12:00p to 12:15p. From 12:15p-1p, assist with grades 6-8 recess, hand washing/sanitizing and condiment distribution for grades 6-8 at lunch. If grades 6-8 do not need assistance at lunch, volunteer may leave when recess ends at 12:35.

  • 3-5: 11:40am-12:05pm

Lands End Sale & Delays
Save 20% now through September 7 by using the code celebrate and the pin 3114.

Like many other well-known retailers, Lands’ End is experiencing delays in product deliveries from key vendors due to challenges in the global supply chain. The continuing impacts of the pandemic have led to backups both internationally and domestically, the reasons for which include:

• A continuing global shortage of vessels and air-freight capacity due to the initial reduction in orders.
• A global worker shortage impacting shipping and ports, caused in part by continuing Covid outbreaks.
• Rail congestion at major freight hubs within North America.
• Increasing demand for consumer goods as the economy recovers.

We are working diligently with our suppliers to expedite late deliveries and will continue to replenish our inventory as quickly as we can. Our dedicated distribution center staff are working extra shifts to get clothing embroidered and shipped to families. We apologize for any inconvenience and we sincerely appreciate everyone's patience and understanding.

As always, our customer service team is available to families Monday-Friday, 7am-11pm, and every associate is fully empowered to resolve customer issues on the first call. Again, we are grateful for your patience as we work to resolve these challenges and ensure every school uniform order is delivered as quickly as possible.

Women's Weekend
We are looking forward to another great NDA Women’s Weekend on November 12, 13 & 14 - at Grandview Lodge. Women's Weekend is a longtime tradition that all the women here at NDA are invited to. This is an opportunity to meet other women, enjoy a weekend away, relax, and have some fun together! As it gets closer, we'll organize a potluck for Friday night, and then the time is really up to you! In years past women will go to a movie, Nisswa, Grandview Spa, long walks, hang-out at cabin, grab drinks and dinner.

Reserved this year is an 8 bedroom cabin + 4 bedroom cabin + 3 bedroom cabin. Most of the rooms have 2 beds, and we are looking for people to share a room as comfortable (not share a bed - own bed in shared room). If you're interested in your own bedroom we will look to accommodate (4 available in group cabins), but please note it may be in a different part of the resort.

Registration: This year you'll have to sign-up on our Registration form - Group reservation closes on October 15. Anything after we may not be able to guarantee being in a group cabin. They are not taking individual reservations any longer, and everything is reserved under Sheila Bothwell. Once committed and signed-up on the Registration form, and we have final headcount (Oct. 15), Sheila will request payment.

Cost will be ~$160-$200 per person - depending on the # of people that attend.
Contact Sheila, #612-298-6953, with any questions.
We hope to see you there!

NDA Spirit
We appreciate the many first day posts out on social media using our hashtag, #ndafaithful. Once your student handbook signature is received in our office, you can watch for your family members in our newsletters and on the school Facebook and Instagram accounts. We enjoy celebrating student birthdays, but cannot do so without a signed handbook form. NDA yard signs and car stickers are available in the school office, stop by and pick one up!

Parent Prayer

Gracious God,
We come to the start of another school year. Bless those in our families who are preparing for this important step in their lives - whether in preschool, the elementary grades, high school, college or higher education.

Loving God,
Bless the students of Notre Dame Academy. May they learn more about you each day and pay attention to lessons that will help them be good citizens.

Gentle God,
Bless all teachers. Give them the wisdom to teach your truths. Give them loving and caring hearts for each student entrusted to their care. May their classroom be a peaceful haven for studying and learning.

Faithful God,
Bless all of us here. We were our children's first teachers. Thank you for guiding us - for we gave them a strong faith, a deep love for you, a caring spirit for others. Amen.

Sister Eleanor, IHM
