The message of the Month - October

Fall is a winding up time of year, packing up the summer stuff and starting to think about the festive months to come.

In a similar spirit we have a winding up here and new ideas are coming along.

Judy our program manager who has done such a terrific job of building the number of classes to be a real ‘school’ of art is leaving October 1, 2021. She is moving to Saskatchewan where her husband has been working for the last many months. It will be hard to lose her.

So let me introduce Melinda Oke, who is just starting as our social media guru and office manager.  She brings lots of experience, great ideas and a delightful personality.

The other new person is Deb Babcock.  Deb joined this organization as one of our artists in 2009. She has been running her own business all the while maintaining her art work so she too is bring real assets to the mix. She has taught for years and knows many of the original artists.  |She has taken part in the majority of our annual art shows.  So he really knows the ropes. She and Mel are working on a couple of special events, the first being a Hallowe’en special. So watch the social media posts and website for more details.

It is very hard to lose Judy, but we must wish both she and her husband well in their new life in Saskatchewan as we welcome Mel and Deb to 187 King Ave E in Newcastle.

Instructor Summary: Use and combine your favorite art tools: pencil, ballpoint pen, pencil crayon and watercolor paint. Learn to select the best tool for the job. Pencil is best for careful linework; charcoal and watercolor is good for fast dark shading. Discover how and why pencils come in different hardnesses. Each 3 hour session will balance between short focused skill-building exercises and one or two sustained multi-week ‘long drawings’. To take advantage of online learning, look for U-tube links and jpgs in your email a few days prior to each online session. Through these links I’ll show you historical artists technically or creatively related to the week’s lesson. I’m also eager to share favourite online documentaries related to specific artists and their creative process.
