  2. Don Bolles Legislative Reporting Fellowship in Phoenix
    Deadline: Monday, Oct. 4. Cover the Arizona Legislature in spring 2022 for 12 units of credit, three of which satisfy your JOUR 490F requirement. Tuition is covered by the fellowship, plus a $5,000 salary. Your work will be published on El Inde, our school media website, and elsewhere. Juniors, seniors preferred. Submit 1) a letter explaining your interest; 2) a résumé with three references; and 3) three samples of your best reporting and writing (published or from journalism classes).   3. Want experience right now? The Arizona Daily Wildcat is hiring for the semester and has positions open for reporters, copy editors, photographers and videographers.   1. Career & Community Expo (virtual): Sept. 9-12. 2021 National Convention, held by NLGJA: The Association of LGBTQ Journalists. The expo features more than 40 exhibitors offering internships and paid positions. The cost is $25, but students can get reimbursed (email Andrés Domínguez in the J-school office). 
  2. Study Abroad Fair: Sept. 20-24. Interested in studying abroad during the summer? Prof. Kim Newton is planning on a photography class in Italy. For more info, attend the Study Abroad Fair on the mall outside the Global Center, 615 N Park Ave. Click here for the schedule. 
  3. Fall Career Days (virtual): Sept. 24, and Sept. 28-30. The University of Arizona connects students with employers. Résumé, interviewing and LinkedIn training sessions start Sept. 2. Info
  4. Pizza and Portfolios: Thursday, Oct. 7, 5 to 7 p.m. here in the Marshall building. Open to all students, regardless of year in the major. Bring your résumé, cover letter and work samples to have them reviewed one-on-one with faculty members and professionals, and hear from our local panel of students and professionals. Free pizza, salad and drinks. RSVP HERE, so we know how much pizza to order!
  5. School of Journalism Fall Internship Fair: Friday, Oct. 29, here in the Marshall building. Open to all students who have completed JOUR 205 or are enrolled in 205 this semester. Interview with Tucson and statewide media recruiters seeking interns for the 2022 spring and summer semesters. A signup link will be sent out in late September.
FEATURED FELLOWSHIPS, INTERNSHIPS 

Podcast Fellowship at the Intercept (fall 2021)

Remote. Deadline Sept. 7. The Intercept is looking for a podcast fellow to join its team this fall. The fellowship is aimed at early-career audio journalists and producers interested in developing their skills in podcast production and audience engagement. Apply here. The fellow will work on a slate of podcasts, including Intercepted, Deconstructed and possibly special narrative and investigative series. (Intercept's current slate of shows.)  
 
Just Media 2021-2022 Uprising Fellowship
Mostly remote. Deadline: Sept. 15. Through this paid, six-month cohort program (Oct. 2021-April 2022), young writers will receive comprehensive training, mentorship, community building opportunities, and support publishing writing on policing, prisons and justice issues with partner outlets. Apply here. Writers of color and those with firsthand experience with the criminal legal system and with communities impacted by prison/policing issues are encouraged to apply.

Tucson Weekly / Tucson Local Media Internship
The Tucson Weekly and its family of community papers — including Explorer, Marana News, Foothills News and Desert Times — are looking for unpaid fall interns who can write features, profiles and news. Students should have taken JOUR 205/506 (beginning reporting) and/or have experience at the Daily Wildcat. Students will be expected to work up to 10 hours a week and produce one article a week. Apply ASAP by emailing your résumé and clips to Jim Nintzel, executive editor, at jimn@tucsonlocalmedia.com. KVOA-TV Channel 4 seeks students for paid internship
KVOA-TV, the local NBC affiliate, is looking for students interested in a paid internship for the fall semester. The opportunity gives students a chance to learn about reporting, producing, digital and social media, weather and/or sports. DCReport.org: Interested in political reporting and analysis? This non-profit news outlet, led by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist David Cay Johnston, is looking for students to write and report remotely for $300 a story. Prism: The BIPOC-led non-profit news outlet is building a list of freelancers for quick-turnaround news stories (remote). The site focuses on people, places and issues underreported by national media. Pay is about $360 for a 900-word story. Contact Carolyn Copeland, news editor, to apply.
