Dear friends and partners,
As our kids and families settle in and adjust to this new school year, it has been wonderful to visit schools and see so many students and teachers interacting, building relationships, and engaging in learning. From hearing a few talented third graders’ creative writing samples to seeing some newly completed innovative learning spaces in use, the importance of having kids safely back in the classroom is on display across the District every day.
Over the past week, the District also updated policies that I have been pushing for to help maximize continuity of learning for students while maintaining the highest health standards set by medical experts. This includes streamlining guidelines and communications in the event of positive COVID cases, making sure that kids can return to school as soon as safely possible, and keeping any students who have to quarantine connected to their classrooms. We will continue working to resolve problems, improve our processes, and ensure that students and families are at the center of our decisions.
We have also begun the process of engaging our families and school communities in the search for the District’s next Superintendent. I recently held the first of many virtual conversations to hear input from on the qualities families and community members are looking for in a candidate. This week, we also launched a community survey to more easily solicit feedback, and began the application process to find the right search team as our efforts continue.
I want to wish everyone a happy Labor Day, and Shana Tova to all who celebrate. As we celebrate the new school year and Jewish New Year while honoring our country’s workforce this weekend, I especially want to thank all the dedicated teachers and employees of our district who are making it possible for kids to be safely back in the classroom. Here’s to a sweet, happy, and healthy new year for us all!
Onward,
|
