Sac State campus police officer seen kneeling on a man in video
In June, a group of cyclists were riding through Sac State. Riders began to perform tricks off of stairs and other structures. In a video taken by a witness, the responding Sac State PD officer can be seen kneeling on a man.

In response to the incident, the university said in an official statement July 1 that this event will be subjected to a use of force review to keep with departmental policy. The university also said that the officer did not kneel on the cyclist's neck but rather his upper back.

Sacramento County chief deputy named Sac State police chief
After a nationwide search, former Sacramento County Chief Deputy Chet Madison Jr. was selected to lead Sac State's police department.

In a town hall with Madison in May, he addressed racism within the police profession. “One of the things that we have to address is that we have to denounce any kind of racism,” Madison said. “If that’s occurring, there’s no room for it. We don’t want individuals who support racism. That’s not part of the fabric of our community.”
