Hello All,

There’s a question for anyone that works for a living that I think should resonate with everyone. If you work for someone else, it might come in one form. If you work for yourself or own your own business, you’re probably asking it of yourself on a regular basis.  Small business owners embrace this question as if their livelihood depended on it. I know our team discusses this question almost weekly, even if it’s not an intentional topic.  

So just what is this game changer question and why is it so important? And if you’re not asking it of yourself, now may be a good time to start. Are you ready?  

Why do we do what we do and what makes us different?

It’s quite elementary, but at the same time carries more weight and payoff than any single question you could ask yourself.
For our team, we have several tenets that we consistently recite or by which we abide . . . 

-    It’s not about us.
-    It’s not about the money.
-    Do what you say you’re going to do.
-    Pick up your phone.

Simple, I’ll admit, but important in the big picture. As I think about this topic, however, a larger truth becomes evident.  These are all just words. These are all just answers to that question we get asked repeatedly when courting new clients – what makes you different? It’s nice to have an answer but again, they’re just words. So, what’s important? What really does make one different?  

It became evident to me as I write this morning. I sent a text to Brooke with a simple note saying, “exhale day”. She has a closing today. She’s had a lot of closings recently. But this one is different. This one embodies our “why” and our “what”. It’s not about words, but rather action.  ACTION is the answer to The Question.



Brooke met George on October 24th, 2020, doing an open house for a listing I had in his neighborhood. She would soon after meet Yvonne, his wife. They had lived in their house for over 30 years, and prior to that, it was George’s boyhood home. Decades of memories resided in that house on Walnut Street. It was all he’d known.  

Over the months that followed, Brooke kept in touch and through ACTION, forged a trusted relationship with both George and Yvonne. In the spring of 2021, George decided it was time to move. With two generations of life in that home, there was going to be some work to do. Next ACTION: find them a new home. That ACTION she took to find a small acreage property is worthy of its own blog, so I’ll just say it was a journey.

After moving them out, the next ACTION was getting the house ready to sell. Supervising an entire crew of contractors, Brooke commandeered the entire process over the next 90 days. Many ACTIONS required reACTIONS. No praise or pats on the back. Just ACTION. 

As I said earlier, today, September 1st, is closing day. Multiple offers, 10-day cash close, and two happy clients. 


So, in the end, it was not about words or testimonials. It wasn’t about “we’ll do this” or “we’ll do that”. It wasn’t about the money. Not a day went by that Brooke wasn’t physically present overseeing her task. It was about ACTION. 313 total days of ACTION from start to finish.

Yes, we have tenets by which we abide. Yes, we do what we say we’ll do. No, it’s not about us. But more importantly, it’s about ACTION. 

We hope over the years that all of you feel that we have exhibited this ACTION mentality and ethic. We strive daily to show rather than talk. Talking is great and without it we wouldn’t exist. I think, though, that our ACTIONS are what truly sets us apart.
