Cancer Care Planning and Communication Act

The Cancer Care Planning and Communications Act (CCPCA) is proposed bipartisan legislation encouraging the development of a personalized cancer care plan for Medicare beneficiaries. Because one of BCCT's goals is to help patients navigate conventional and complementary cancer care, we've joined the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship (NCCS), who is spearheading this legislation, and our partner the Society for Integrative Oncology (SIO) in sharing this information with you.

CCPCA will help people with cancer in these ways:

  • Supply a written plan or roadmap to help you through the difficult process of cancer diagnosis, treatment choices, treatment management, and survivorship care
  • Support informed decisions and promote shared decision-making between you and your cancer care teams
  • Empower you with information necessary to help manage and coordinate your care through diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship

To learn more or take action on this legislation, see Cancer Care Planning and Communications Act (CCPCA) from NCCS.

Eating Well: Healing Never Tasted So Good

In June, BCCT Senior Researcher Laura Pole, RN, MSN, OCNS—and also a health-supportive chef—spoke about the healing practice of eating well as part of the National Coalition Cancer Survivorship’s second virtual Cancer Policy & Advocacy Team Symposium.

In just thirty minutes, Laura covers the most important tips on health-supportive food selection and eating. She guides you through food choices that help optimize your body terrain to create a body that is less supportive of cancer. She also shares numerous resources you can use, then wraps up with a wonderful demonstration providing a “virtual taste” of a delicious, nourishing carob banana smoothie.

Additional resources from the presentation are available from the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship. You can also find much more information on Eating Well on the BCCT website. We wish you delicious eating and deep healing!

COVID-19: Integrative Approaches to Prevention, Treatment, and Recovery

COVID-19 has affected our lives in unprecedented ways, and we're all being challenged to find meaning, safety, and health in the face of continuing social, economic, and health-related upheaval and uncertainty.

BCCT seeks to support you, your families, and all our communities by sorting out the facts from the myths and presenting the most credible scientific information available. We present information on what you can do to prevent transmission, bolster resilience to infection, and aid treatment and recovery.

On COVID-19: Prevention and Reducing Risk, we offer guidance on lifestyle practices (starting with the 7 Healing Practices) and natural products to support your immune system so your body is more resilient if you're exposed to the virus. We also provide information on COVID Treatment—Balancing the Benefit and the Evidence, and Preparing to Be Vaccinated: An Integrative Approach.

Our page dedicated to considerations with cancer takes a closer look at how the virus, treatments, and vaccines all impact people with cancer. We wish you and your loved ones strong health, peace, and connection during this challenging time.
