Don't forget--our first event of the year is this Saturday, Sept. 11, in person, in the Civitas Office from 9:30 am-11:30 am.
 All are welcome to join us for an engaging morning focused on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. We have an exciting guest speaker, Ema Phelps, who is a United Nations Association 2021-2022 Global Goals Ambassador for SDG 11—Sustainable Cities and Communities. Ema will share her wealth of knowledge about all 17 SDG Goals; she will also share her interesting journey of recently relocating from northern California to St. Louis.
New to Civitas? This would be a great event to attend! If you are a Civitas veteran, we hope to see you again at the first chance to earn a Game Changer point this year.
In addition to our guest speaker, we will talk about this school year and what Civitas hopes to offer. We would also like to get ideas from you. If you are interested in Model UN, we will touch on important dates and information. And we have a couple of fun activities planned! We will also have snacks available.

Interested in learning more about the situation in Afghanistan?
 Webster University student, Fahima Band Ali, a native of Afghanistan, is hosting a public discussion about her native country this evening, Tuesday, September 7th at 7:00 pm. The event is FREE and open to the public and will be held on the Webster University campus in the auditorium of Browning Hall. Several guest speakers are on the evening’s agenda, including Arrey Obenson, chief executive officer and president of the International Institute of St. Louis; Carlos Suarez, the president of the United Nations Association of St. Louis; Webster University History Professor Warren Rosenblum, and Fahima herself. Fundraising efforts and opportunities will also be discussed.

High School Model UN Update
Civitas hopes to have most Model UN events in person this fall, although we are offering a Zoom option, too. An information letter email will be going out this week to teacher and student sponsors with more details, but we do have the following dates on the Civitas calendar:
Country Draft--Saturday, October 2, 9:30-11:30, location to be determined.
Model UN Sessions A (9:00 am-12:00 pm) & B (1:00 pm-4:00 pm)—Saturday, November 20, location to be determined.
Model UN Session C (9:00 am-12:00 pm)—Saturday, December 4, via ZOOM.
