THE FOR THE PEOPLE ACT-S 1
|
|
Our Senators need to support THE FOR THE PEOPLE ACT-S 1
The House of Representatives passed the bill earlier this year. The vote in the Senate was 50-50 deadlocked. Our Senators need to hear our voices.
Tell them to vote YES on The For The People Act
Right now there are more than 60 bills restricting voter access in at least 18 State Legislators. The For The People Act would create National voting access. It would address same day registration, early and vote by mail standards. It would help modernize voter registration systems, and restore voting rights to formerly incarcerated individuals.
These are voting regulations that Utah has practiced for many years without issue.
We need to Call/Write our Senators and tell them we support this bill.

Equal Access To Abortion Coverage in Health Insurance Act/EACH
|
|
Wondering who is your Congressman? Check our website for the link found under "Local actions you can take" section.
|
|
Our members of Congress need to hear from us supporting the Equal Access To Abortion Coverage in Health Insurance Act/EACH.
The Hyde Amendment denies abortion coverage to any woman that uses a Federal Health Program. This means anyone enrolled in Medicare, Medicaid or Children's Health Insurance/CHIP will be denied abortion coverage. This would also exclude abortion services to anyone in the Military, Federal Employees and their dependents, Peace Corp volunteers, anyone enrolled in Tribal programs and survivors of human trafficking.
These bans disproportionately harm people of color, those with disabilities, immigrants and LGBTQ+ individuals.
The Equal Access to Abortion Coverage /EACH would put a stop to these bans on coverage. We need to tell our Congressman to support the EACH ACT and ensure equal access to abortion services are there for everyone.
You can comment through the NCJW website or write/call your Congressman.

Equal Access To Abortion Coverage in Health Insurance Act/EACH
|
|
NCJW Utah Section board members just took part in the NCJW Tekiyah: Call to Action for Abortion Access.
We need to put pressure on our Senators and Congressman to pass the Women's Health Protection Act/WHPA. There are members of Congress that co sponsored this bill in the last session that have not yet signed on to it this time around. The Bill will come up for a vote on September 20th. Not One of Utah's Representatives are listed as co sponsors.
From NCJW:
THE ISSUE: Texas's radical abortion ban, SB 8, which would allow anyone to sue abortion providers and anyone who helps a person obtain an abortion past 6 weeks of pregancy, became law today. The U.S. Supreme Court would not intervene. SB 8 puts abortion out of reach for the vast majority of Texans and can be used to target abortion providers, advocates and friends and family members who help patients access abortion.
THE GOOD NEWS:
The Women's Health Protection Act (WHPA) would safeguard access to high quality care and secure constitutional rights by protecting patients and providers from this dangerous political interference no matter where one lives.
OUR TASK:
Urge lawmakers to pass WHPA
You can call and or email and ask them to support WHPA.
Here's a quick, real easy way to call:
Dial 202-224-3121. Follow the prompts and you will be redirected to your representative where you can leave the suggested message that follows:
"Hi, My name is {name} and I am a constituent and a National Council of Jewish Women advocate. Texas SB* is just the latest in radical bans restricting access to abortion, harming women and people who can get pregnant, and in particular, women of color. The Women's Health Protection Act, or WHPA, would address the current attacks on abortion rights across the US. I urge you to pass the Women's Health Protection Act when it comes to the floor on September 20th."
It probably took less than 5 minutes to make and complete the call.

|
PLEASE PUT THIS ON YOUR CALENDAR:
There will be a nationwide protest of Texas's SB 8 abortion law. This Women's March is taking place ahead of the Supreme Court reconvening on October 4th. We need to send the Supreme Court and lawmakers across this Country a clear, unified message. We will not tolerate this attack on our reproductive rights.
MARCH TO PROTECT WOMEN'S REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS
Date: October 2
Place: Utah State Capitol
Time: to be announced
