I've Never Thought More about Health on Campus in my Life

...but thankfully there is an on-campus resource here to help

In addition to everything else *waves hands at COVID*, we're entering what is typically a stressful time of the semester that is tough on students' health. We are deep into the fall semester, and some of you have not eaten a vegetable or gotten a full night's sleep in quite a while. You are (hopefully) working on papers and homework and group projects and stress is piling up. Plus, if you're anything like me, you're constantly asking yourself things like "is my throat sore because I haven't had any water all day or because of something else?" Add cold+flu season to that mix, and it's enough to make us count down the days to to sleep for all of Thanksgiving break. Luckily, there is a campus resource here to help keep you healthy: Thielen Student Health Center.

The Thielen website is full of information...here are the basics you need to know:

  • If you have a quick question and want to ask a nurse for free, confidential advice, just call 515-294-5801 and ask to speak to a nurse. Sometimes you just need quick advice, and this is a great resource for that
  • If you'd like to be seen by a doctor or nurse, call 515-294-5801 to schedule an appointment. Make sure to bring your ISU Card when you actually check in at that appointment.
  • If you have health insurance info on file with Thielen, they will work through your insurance company for any charges incurred. Anything not covered by your insurance company will go onto your U-Bill.
We've highlighted a bunch of Thielen resources below, but make sure you check out the Thielen website  for complete information - taking advantage of Thielen (especially these days) can be a HUGE weight off your shoulders if you're sick!

Advice from an Honors Ambassador:

Feeling sick or need an annual physical? Thielen Student Health has you covered! Now that we are approaching flu season and COVID is still around, staying on top of your physical and mental health is more important than ever. It can be scary scheduling appointments and seeing a new doctor by yourself, but the staff at Thielen is super welcoming, and it's easy to call and schedule an appointment that works around your classes. Not only is it a regular clinic, but it also contains many specialists, such as physical therapists, allergy specialists, women's health doctors, and psychiatrists. There is a pharmacy right inside the entrance to pick up any needed prescription right on campus. They currently are offering free covid vaccines, and soon will also be offering flu shots. As this semester continues, make sure to stay safe and stay healthy!
