Sloss community, get your calendars ready!

Join us for community building, events and bringing back Sloss traditions

A letter from the Interns:

We are eager and enthusiastic to be serving as the Fall 2021 PR and Communications Interns. We feel lucky to spend the Margaret Sloss Center for Women and Gender Equity’s 40th anniversary with this team and campus community.

For our 40th year, we look forward to reintroducing Sloss traditions and creating nostalgic events for our community. This year we are particularly excited to bring back “Dear Margaret,” an advice column that allows readers to anonymously reach out to Sloss Staff for responses. We will also bring “Dear Margaret,” to our Instagram in efforts to make the column more accessible to our readers and audience.

In addition, we are excited for the opportunity to focus on preserving our history by shooting more photos and videos of Sloss updates and events as well as sharing these photos and videos on our social media, website and in our newsletter.

As the interns, we are fully committed to advocating for space and justice for women, gender nonconforming individuals, nonbinary individuals, transgender individuals, genderqueer individuals, all LGBT+ folks, as well as all minority groups on campus. We are committed to providing proper support and resources for these groups, both on our Iowa State campus and beyond.

We thank you for your support and look forward to this semester alongside you. We welcome and encourage you to take part in any of our events, meet other staff members, and get involved at the Sloss House and the work we do.

Kindly,

Victoria Reyna-Rodriguez (they/them/theirs or she/her/hers), PR and Communications Intern

Bret Clark (she/her/hers), PR and Communications Intern

  • Writing Groups

Providing space and programming that is affirming, positive and uplifting, will allow WOC working at a predominantly White institution (ISU) to share their experiences.

Ultimately, this collective will enhance the quality of life for participants by increasing their ability to create a shared community where they are accepted and validated. This group is open to faculty and staff that identify as women of color. We proudly welcome women who are cisgender, trans, of trans experience, gender queer women, and non-binary people who female-identify.
