Turning the calendar page to a new season this week and we’re excited to welcome it with you. The cooler weather reminds us to build up our immune system for the colder months ahead and no better place to do it than at the farmers market. New season crops are arriving every week as you start to think about stews, slow cooker meals, and pumpkin spice.
Children’s Activities: We wrap up September with another exciting day for children of all ages! Join us this Saturday, September 25th, 10:00am - 12:30pm, for a collaboration with the Mint Museum. Watch artist, muralist, and educator Curtis King paint a piece inspired by the Mint’s exhibition John Leslie Breck: American Impressionist at Mint Museum Uptown. The Mint Museum will provide a free Breck-themed art kit for the kids, complimentary museum admission passes for families, and a Breck art postcard. The regular Children's Activity Tent will move to the area in front of the Uptown Farmers Market mural for this Saturday’s activities.
We had a blast with Arts+ last weekend making creative fruit and vegetable sculptures with our young patrons. A huge thanks to their excellent arts instructors for joining us. We look forward to their next visits on October 9, November 13, and December 4.
Ever have a night when you don’t have time to cook but want a home-cooked farm fresh meal? We’ve got you covered there. Hear from some of our vendors about the types of weekly specials to expect (yum!), the freshness of locally roasted coffee available, and that delicious goat cheese that comes to the market from the farm (try the Samba or Tango medleys for a super quick and delicious pasta).

COVID-19 Protocol: Please continue to socially distance at vendor tents and take advantage of the market’s three hand-washing stations. We’ll have plentiful sanitizers at all the vendor tents. Mask mandates are back for indoor places, so we can all appreciate the opportunity to shop for the freshest produce, meats, and artisan foods at an outdoor farmers market. We will stay vigilant on CDC protocols for outdoor gatherings, but please wear a mask if you feel more comfortable. We’ll continue to work together to get past this pandemic and keep one another safe.

Winding down the season for fresh local corn means taking time to buy ears to cut off the cob and freeze, pickle or enjoy one last time or two on the grill.
Remember that corn does not take a long time to cook – just a minute or two in boiling water or on a hot grill is plenty of time. In fact, for a fun treat, you can even eat the corn raw off the cob. Raw corn is also tasty in salads and soups.
While corn on the cob is delicious any way you cook it, grilling the corn really brings out the natural sweetness – the addition of a squeeze of lime and the tang of the chevre, feta and mayo in this recipe makes it a real winner.
The part that will take you the longest here is cleaning the corn. The process can make a big mess in the kitchen, so sit outside to husk the corn and carefully remove all of the silks over a big paper bag for easy clean up.
Cheers,
Heidi
