WHAT'S UP

Greetings, friends! Hope you are doing well and finding some time to create! What's inspiring you lately? Reply back and let me know, ok? Hope you enjoy this latest issue of The Scrap Basket!
I've actually had a few small finishes this month, one of them being Some Like It Medium, my response to Seattle MQG's block of the monthSalsa Medallion, I sort of took the fast-track method of constructing my improv medallion, usually including more than one month's prompt per round. I also consider it my own personal Pantone Color of the Year challenge, as I was focusing on Illuminating and Ultimate Gray. Definitely a fun project!

WORTH A READ

ROUND-UP

For one of a pair of baby quilts, Michelle wanted a big block log cabin feel, but also a rectangle, which was achieved by simply starting with a rectangle center. Love how the darker fabrics accent and frame portions of the quilt! [meeshquilts]
For Kim's entry in the
Monochrome Dreams improv quilt challenge hosted by Quilt Improv Studio, she explored not only working in a monochromatic color palette, but creating gentle curved stripes and organic wavy line quilting. Pretty awesome how her varied explorations came together in "Storm Warnings."

Between the shapes and her color palette, Sophie's "Spotlight" really catches your eye, doesn't it? Know that all the half and full circles are hand-appliqued onto the background, oh yeah! And look close to see the varied quilting designs!

Sarah began her 100 Day Summer Sewalong project with a neutral pieced and quilted background and then added appliqued circles. Once the circles were all sewn on, she added some hand-quilted circles, which just took "Zero Eccentricity" up a notch! [saroy]

ON TREND

Zak Foster likes to take an official artist-and-quilt portrait with each of his projects, which is such a great idea! Here he's sharing the back(!) of "The A$AP Rocky Quilt," which he pieced from repurposed clothing and hand-tied to a vintage puff quilt. The resultant quilt was actually worn on the red carpet at the Met Gala! [Here is Zak's telling of it.] Fun to discover the rest of the story.

GOTTA LOVE IT!

What I love most about my "Sequel," is that it was impulsive, made from lovely scraps that just didn't want to be relegated to the scrap basket. Do you find that you respond to your scraps that way? I don't always, but it's very freeing when I do! Try it! You might like it!
P.S. Did you see that the
International Quilt Museum has announced a quilt challenge? For the Modern Meets Modern Challenge, make a mini quilt (16" x 16") inspired by one of the four Catalyst Quilts.
