As part of our mandate, we're committed to supporting organizations that share our values and who work tirelessly to advocate for the most vulnerable. This year we're supporting Sea-Watch, a non-profit organization that conducts civil search and rescue operations in the Central Mediterranean. Since 2014, they have saved thousands of refugees and migrants, and continue to advocate to push for rescue operations by European states and legal escape routes. We'll share more about how our projects support their efforts in the coming months.

To mark International Human Rights Day this December 10th, we're partnering with our friends at IRIS-Institute for Research and Development on Inclusion and Society for a special evening of art and dialogue filmed at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights in Winnipeg. Slipping is a new site-specific creative experiment, a dance film in the making, that will bring together an all-female team of collaborators for a two-week collective quarantine. Artists will live together at a secret location in Ontario, where they will transform the dwelling to reveal intimate stories unfolding from room to room. Inspired by our personal experiences during pandemic isolation, the project explores the paradox of relationships slipping between the dark and joyous nuances of our physical, emotional and psychological landscapes. Co-directed and co-produced by Karen Kaeja and Roshanak Jaberi, Slipping is a Jaberi Dance Theatre project and is generously funded by the Canada Council for the Arts, Digital Now.
The film will be released in 2022, but keep an eye out for a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the work in development on our Instagram!

STAND FOR THE DISAPPEARED

Premiered earlier this year, The Woman in White is our short documentary that explores the true story of a nurse and mother, Juana Irma Cisneros Ticas, who was captured and forcibly disappeared in El Salvador during the Salvadoran Civil War on September 12, 1982. With items featured in these photos and film among the few remaining pieces belonging to Juana Irma, listen to her story, shared by her daughter Ana Cisneros, in an intimate perspective and journey through love and loss, and her quest for justice. MEET OUR NEW COLLABORATORS

Artistic Director Roshanak Jaberi is the 2021 awardee of the TO Live Explorations Initiative (Choreography). As a part of her developing research which examines the intersections of performance, architecture and justice, she's been working with curator and research advisory Sanam Samanian.
Roshanak is also excited to collaborate with digital design/immersive technology artist Avideh Saadatpajouh, as they experiment with innovative ways of combining technology with the arts.
