Annual Forum Session Spotlight:

Virtual Field Trip: ASR Project in Provo Utah

For the past couple of years Barr Engineering has been helping the city of Provo, Utah, to develop a broad Aquifer Storage and Recovery Program. Declining groundwater levels and a population that is expected to double in the next 40 years has the city in high gear to establish a long-term sustainable water supply.

After identifying a number of potential sites and doing geophysical surveys, five sites were identified (3 infiltration and 2 injection sites). Working with the state regulators and the city, pilot studies have been completed at all 5 sites and final design is now being prepared.

This virtual field trip follows Jeff Davis, Barr Engineering, to two infiltration sites, Rock Canyon and Riverview Park. Rock Canyon sits on the east side of Provo in the beautiful Wasatch Mountains. Pilot tests have been very favorable and the plan is to infiltrate up to 15,000 acre-feet per year of water into the aquifer. The other infiltration site visited is Riverview Park. This beautiful park is located in the middle of a neighborhood in Provo. Water infiltrated to the subsurface is coming directly from the Provo River.

This session will be available to watch at any time during the conference. Attendees will be able to find it by clicking on the Virtual Field Trip session on the Wednesday tab in the Whova conference app. Please note, Jeff Davis will be available LIVE to answer questions about the projects in the Virtual Field Trip session's chat function in the app on Wednesday, Sept. 29 from 2 - 3 p.m. (Central).
